Album Review: Flash by 2 Your Room
Alright, let’s talk about Flash by 2 Your Room. Released in '98 under the Semaphore label, this German trance gem is one of those albums that feels like it teleported straight out of a neon-lit club. It’s got all the hallmarks of late ‘90s electronic music—pulsing beats, euphoric builds, and enough remixes to keep you dancing till your shoes fall off.
The album’s basically built around the track “Flash,” but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s repetitive. Nope. They’ve chopped it up into seven different versions, each with its own vibe. Two tracks really stuck with me, though.
First up, there’s the “Clubversion I.” Man, this one slaps. It starts with this hypnotic beat that just grabs you by the brain and doesn’t let go. The synths are sharp, almost like they’re slicing through the air, and when the drop hits? Pure goosebump material. This version feels raw, like it was made for sweaty basements where everyone’s lost their minds on the dancefloor. You can tell X-Team (shoutout to them) knew what they were doing—they weren’t messing around.
Then there’s the “Extended Version.” If Clubversion I is the wild party starter, this one’s more like the after-hours chill session. It stretches things out, giving you time to breathe while still keeping that trance energy alive. There’s something about how the melody loops—it’s simple but addictive, like a song you hum without realizing it. Honestly, I found myself zoning out to this track more than once, kinda like staring at a screensaver but way cooler.
What’s wild about Flash is how unapologetically ‘90s it feels. Like, if you close your eyes while listening, you can practically smell the cheap cologne and spilled Red Bull from some underground rave. But hey, that’s part of its charm. It’s not trying to be anything other than pure, unfiltered trance—and honestly? We need more of that these days.
Here’s the kicker: as much as I love the album, it makes me wonder—what ever happened to 2 Your Room? Did they vanish into the same void as my old Discman? Or maybe they’re just living their best life somewhere, sipping coffee and laughing at kids today who think EDM started with Avicii. Either way, Flash remains proof that sometimes, less really is more. Seven remixes of one banger? Yeah, I’m here for it.
So yeah, give this album a spin if you’re into old-school trance or just wanna feel like you’re back in the glory days of glowsticks and baggy jeans. And if nothing else, it’ll remind you why we fell in love with electronic music in the first place. Peace out.
