Album Review: Don’t Hold Back by DJ Waxweazle Alright, let’s talk about Don’t Hold Back, the 2004 banger from Dutch DJ Waxweazle. This album is a wild ride through Happy Hardcore and Hardcore vibes—two styles that just slap when done right. And trust me, Waxweazle nails it. Released under his own label (go indie spirit!), this thing has energy for days. It’s like someone bottled up all the euphoria of a rave and poured it into an album. First off, the title track, “Don’t Hold Back,” hits hard. Like, really hard. From the moment those pounding kicks kick in, you’re hooked. The melody? Insanely catchy. It’s one of those tunes where you can almost feel your heart racing with the beat. I remember hearing this at some random party years ago, and it was THAT song—the one everyone lost their minds to. You know what I mean? That kind of chaotic joy where people are jumping around like lunatics but somehow still smiling? Yeah, that’s this track. Then there’s another standout—let’s call it “Track X” since I don’t have the full list here—but damn, it’s got this addictive synth line that worms its way into your brain. Like, you’ll be humming it hours later while doing something boring like laundry or grocery shopping. It’s fast, frenetic, and kinda feels like being on a sugar high. You can tell Waxweazle wasn’t holding back on creativity either; he throws everything at these tracks—big drops, swirling arpeggios, even moments that make you go “Wait…is that a sample of a kids’ cartoon??” But somehow, it works. What gets me emotional about this album is how raw it feels. It’s not polished to death like so much electronic music today. Instead, it’s messy and loud and unapologetically itself. Listening to it now takes me back to simpler times, before playlists ruled everything and Spotify algorithms decided what we should listen to. Back then, discovering stuff like Don’t Hold Back felt like finding treasure. Here’s the kicker though—I never thought I’d say this, but this album makes me wanna dust off my old vinyl collection and throw a raving living room party. Who does that anymore? Maybe no one. Or maybe just me. Either way, hats off to DJ Waxweazle for creating something that still punches as hard as it did nearly two decades ago. So yeah, give Don’t Hold Back a spin if you’re into high-energy beats that refuse to chill out. Just don’t blame me if your neighbors start complaining.

It all started for Rob Fabrie when he started producing Techno with a very good friend of his called Richard van Naamen. Rob began in 1990 when he was working at Midtown (Rotterdam). He gave Paul Elstak a couple of demos. Then the three of them founded Holy Noise not long after which followed up with some very successful tracks like for example "James Brown is still alive" and "The Nightmare". After they decided to split up, Rob continued producing for labels like Terror Trax, Dance International or ID&T Music and started using the name Dj Waxweazle. Due to his successful releases clubs and promotors book him for Dj performances weekly and ID&T offered him his own label Waxweazle Vinyl which today he successfully manages from his studio in Rotterdam. He is also known as Chipo chipolata & Somebody from Rotterdam.
