Angletrax – A Genre-Bending Time Capsule from 1969 If you’ve never heard of Angletrax, don’t sweat it. This obscure gem, released in 1969, feels like a secret handshake between rock enthusiasts and experimental music nerds. With its roots planted firmly in Australia & New Zealand but stretching across Canada, Germany, the UK, and beyond, this album is a wild ride through Art Rock, Punk, Post-Punk, New Wave, and Experimental sounds. It’s not perfect—far from it—but that’s kinda the charm. Let’s dive into two standout tracks: “Mental Block” and “God and Chips.” These songs stick with you for different reasons, showcasing the band’s knack for blending chaos with melody. “Mental Block” kicks things off with an almost hypnotic groove. Lin Jammet’s guitar work here is sharp yet understated, letting Wendy Herman’s vocals take center stage. Her voice has this raw edge, like she’s spilling her guts without caring what anyone thinks. The track builds tension with Jerry Minge’s synth flourishes, which feel both alien and oddly comforting. You can tell they weren’t afraid to experiment, throwing weird time signatures and unexpected breaks into the mix. By the end, your brain might actually feel like it's hitting a mental block—but in the best way possible. Then there’s “God and Chips,” a song so bizarrely titled you can’t help but pay attention. It’s got this swaggering rhythm courtesy of Martin Heath on bass and Dan Who keeping things tight on drums. Lyrically, it’s a head-scratcher—a mix of social commentary and absurdist humor that somehow works. There’s a moment midway where the whole thing seems to fall apart before snapping back together, leaving you wondering if you imagined the mess. That unpredictability makes it unforgettable. The production quality isn’t exactly pristine (shoutout to engineer Jeff Calver for doing his best with ‘60s tech), but it adds character. Tim Young’s mastering gives the record a warmth that modern albums often lack. And let’s give props to Angletrax themselves as producers—they clearly didn’t care about fitting neatly into one box. Instead, they crafted something messy, daring, and alive. One thing that stands out about Angletrax is how ahead of its time it feels. Listening to it now, you’d think it came out in the late ‘70s or early ‘80s when Post-Punk and New Wave were all the rage. But nope—it dropped in ’69, making it a true pioneer. Labels like RCA Victor and Hansa International must’ve had their hands full trying to market this thing. In hindsight, maybe Angletrax was too weird for its era. Or maybe people just weren’t ready for an album that refused to sit still. Whatever the case, it deserves more love than it got. So do yourself a favor: grab a copy, crank up the volume, and let these tunes transport you to a world where rules are made to be broken. Oh, and fun fact? If you listen closely during “Shepherds Bush,” you can hear what sounds suspiciously like someone accidentally knocking over a mic stand. Proof that even groundbreaking art can have clumsy moments.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Angletrax* by Angletrax is like a musical time capsule from 1969. It blends genres like Art Rock, Punk, and New Wave, which was pretty wild for its time. What’s even more intriguing is that it was released in multiple countries—Australia, Canada, Germany, the UK—and on different labels, including RCA Victor and Hansa International. One standout detail? Martin Heath played both bass and harmonica, while Jerry Minge wore multiple hats, contributing piano, synthesizer, backing vocals, and even writing credits. And get this—the track "God and Chips" appears twice on the album. Was it a mistake or intentional? Who knows, but it adds to the mystery of this experimental gem.
