Eurythmics - Love Is A Stranger

Love Is A Stranger by Eurythmics: A Wild Ride Through Sound and Soul Alright, let’s get into it. Love Is A Stranger by Eurythmics isn’t just an album—it’s a vibe, a mood, and honestly, kind of a trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up in the '90s or has a soft spot for synth-heavy bangers. Released in 1991, this thing is like a mixtape of genres: pop, rock, electronic, even some punk/new wave sneaking in there. It’s got that dance-rock energy but also these downtempo moments that make you wanna sit back with a cuppa tea and think about life. You know what I mean? The tracklist itself feels like Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart emptied their creative vaults onto one record. There are remixes, live versions, instrumentals—it’s all over the place, but in the best way possible. Two tracks really stuck out to me while spinning this bad boy. First up, “Love Is A Stranger.” Yeah, yeah, the title track—big surprise, right? But hear me out. This version (the original, not the million remixes) hits different. Annie’s voice cuts through like a knife, sharp and haunting, while the synths swirl around you like fog on a cold night. It’s weirdly hypnotic. The lyrics feel kinda eerie too—like she’s singing about love being both beautiful and totally alien. I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but every time I hear it, I picture some neon-lit cityscape where everyone’s dancing alone together. Does that make sense? No? Okay, moving on. Then there’s “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This).” Wait, wait—I know, it’s technically from their earlier work, but they threw it on here as well, and how could you not talk about it? That bassline is iconic, man. Like, if aliens landed tomorrow and asked us to explain human music, we’d play them this song. Annie sounds so cool and detached, yet somehow completely raw at the same time. And those visuals? The orange jumpsuit, the shaved head—total legend status. Honestly, hearing this track again made me realize why people still lose their minds over Eurythmics. They didn’t just make songs; they created moments. Now, here’s the kicker: this album came out in, like, a bajillion countries—Europe, Japan, Australia, South Africa, even Barbados! And each release had its own little tweaks thanks to labels like RCA, BMG, and whoever else got their hands on it. The credits read like a phone book, with Laurence Stevens handling design, David A. Stewart producing most of it, and remix wizards like Cold Cut throwing in their two cents. It’s wild how many people touched this project, but somehow it still feels cohesive. Like, sure, there are remixes galore, but the heart of Eurythmics stays intact. Here’s the random thought I’ll leave you with: listening to Love Is A Stranger feels like flipping through old photos of someone you used to know. Familiar, nostalgic, but also kinda distant. Maybe that’s why it works so well—it’s personal without being pushy, experimental without losing its soul. Oh, and fun fact: apparently, the LP was mastered by someone credited as “H1.” Who names themselves after a flu strain? Anyway, props to H1 because the sound quality slaps. So yeah, give this album a spin if you haven’t already. Just don’t blame me if you end up humming “Sweet Dreams” for the next three days straight.

British synthpop duo: (b. December 25, 1954, Aberdeen, UK) and (b. September 9, 1952, Sunderland, UK). They first recorded together as members of new wave band who would change their name to and enjoy two UK top ten hits in early 1980, but disband before the year was out. In 1981, Lennox and Stewart made their debut as Eurythmics, though they struggled to gain recognition at first, only breaking through with their sixth single "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)". This was the turning point of their career. They continued to be one of the leading synth groups throughout the eighties. After a long period of solo activities in the early and mid-90s Eurythmics re-united for one album and charity world tour in 1999 and in 2004 for the release of extended, remastered and repacked editions of their previous albums and a second hits compilation. Eurythmics released one song (b-side of "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" by Annie Lennox & ) under the alias "The Spheres Of Celestial Influence

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know that *Love Is A Stranger* by Eurythmics is like a musical chameleon? The album, released in 1991, blends so many genres and styles—Synth-pop, Punk/New Wave, House, Dance-Rock—it’s hard to pin down. What’s wild is how it took on a life of its own globally, with over 20 tracks, including remixes and live versions. Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart poured their magic into this project, and it became a worldwide phenomenon, hitting shelves in places as diverse as Zimbabwe and Barbados. The iconic title track alone got remixed more times than you can count, showing just how versatile and timeless their sound really is.

This reminds me of Liaisons dangereuses / Los niños del parque, also from 1982: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3tR__Kbqmg

Pop Quiz! This was the B side on a Eurythmics 45. What was the song on the A side? I used to play this on a 45 Jukebox when I was a Sophomore in highschool. I was probably Sweet Dreams. I just cant remember.

This is really great music, conceptual, open mind, basic and in advance of his time, i heard it many times in music decks of the most avangarde Discos ever, Chicago, Typhoon, La mecca played by the best DJs mixed together with african, reggae and Funky... this is Trance, Electro, Psychadelic. Love!

This sounds like one of those minimalist Electro/Italo jams that they would play in the mixes on WBMX in Chicago back in the 80's,

The Eurythmics weren't just a music vibe, they were a fashion, and visual media vibe too.
