Aphrodite - Break In Reality

Review by Scott Ray

Break In Reality by Aphrodite: A Wild Ride Through Jungle and Beyond Alright, let’s get into it. Break In Reality is Aphrodite’s 2007 stomping ground of beats that’ll have your eardrums doing the cha-cha. Released under Aphrodite Recordings and Moist Music (yes, really), this album feels like a passport stamped with "UK" on one side and "US" on the other—basically, an electronic globetrotter. The dude himself handles production AND mixing duties, which means there’s no one to blame but him if things go sideways. Spoiler alert: They don’t. Genre-wise, we’re talking Electronic with flavors of Club/Dane, Hip Hop, Drum n Bass, Jungle—you name it. It’s like walking into a rave where every room has its own vibe, but somehow, they all work together without making you feel like you’ve accidentally wandered into someone else's playlist. Now, I gotta call out two tracks because trying to review all of them would be like summarizing a fireworks show—you just can’t do justice to the chaos. First up, “Return To Jedda.” This track hits hard right from the jump. With its relentless bassline and drum patterns sharp enough to cut glass, it’s basically the soundtrack for when you need to sprint across town but pretend you’re in a movie montage. There’s something hypnotic about how Aphrodite layers those synths—it’s not perfect, but who cares? Perfection’s boring anyway. Plus, there’s even a Jaydan remix version thrown in for good measure, like dessert after dinner. You didn’t ask for it, but damn, are you glad it showed up. Then there’s “Mind Breaks (Live At Festival).” If “Return To Jedda” is the adrenaline rush, this one’s the comedown that still keeps you moving. It’s got that raw live energy, as if Aphrodite set up shop backstage at Glastonbury and pressed record while everyone was losing their minds. The build-ups here are killer, teasing you with drops that hit harder than your ex’s text messages. And honestly? That unpredictability is what makes it stick in my brain. Every time I hear it, I’m convinced the drop will come sooner—but nope, Aphrodite’s playing mind games. Classic move. The rest of the album follows suit, blending jungle breaks with hip-hop swagger and club vibes so smooth they could sell moisturizer. Tracks like “Pound 4 Pound,” “Tantalize,” and “Luna Rain” keep the momentum alive, though some cuts lean more experimental than others. Not everything lands perfectly, but hey, life’s messy too, right? What sticks with me most about Break In Reality isn’t just the music—it’s the vibe. Listening to this feels like being invited to a party hosted by someone who doesn’t care if you spill your drink, as long as you’re dancing. Sure, the tracklist repeats itself more times than necessary (cough three versions of “Return To Jedda”??), but maybe that’s Aphrodite’s way of saying, “If you liked it, why not play it again?” In conclusion, Break In Reality is less of an album and more of a vibe machine. It’s chaotic, layered, and occasionally over-the-top—but isn’t that what great electronic music should be? Aphrodite doesn’t just break reality; he remixes it until it fits his vision. So grab your headphones, crank the volume, and prepare for a wild ride. Or, y’know, put it on shuffle and hope for the best. Either way works. Oh, and fun fact: If you listen closely during “Master To Disciple,” you might catch Aphrodite whispering tips on how to DJ better than he does. Or maybe that’s just tinnitus kicking in. Who knows?

If anyone mentions DNB Aphrodite is top 3 no doubt and he doesn't let D.J.'s touch his music without paying for it. I don't blame him either he's multiple recognizable and phenomenal bass riffs recorded to date. You rock his jams in your whip and have a system your set. His bass rhythms or beats are legendary.
