Red Sky by Aviana: A Heavy Metal Pop/Rock Mashup That’ll Leave You Going “Huh, Not Bad!” Alright, buckle up because we’re diving into Red Sky, the 2019 release from Aviana under Arising Empire. It’s one of those albums that straddles genres like it can’t decide if it wants to be at a rock concert or a metalhead mosh pit. Spoiler alert: it’s kinda both—and honestly, that works more often than you’d think. First off, let’s talk about the title track, “Red Sky.” This song is basically what would happen if heavy metal and pop-rock had an argument in a bar and then made up over tequila shots. The riffs are chunky enough to make your ears perk up, but there’s also this melodic undertone that sneaks in when you least expect it. Like, just as you’re headbanging like nobody’s watching, BAM—some soaring vocals hit you right in the feels. It’s catchy without being annoying (looking at you, every other radio hit). And yeah, I remember it because it’s got this chorus that sticks to your brain like gum on a hot sidewalk. Annoying? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely. Then there’s another banger—I won’t name names here for the sake of mystery—but trust me, it slaps. Picture this: crunchy guitar riffs paired with lyrics that sound like they were written after one too many late-night existential crises. Sounds pretentious? Sure does. But somehow, Aviana pulls it off without sounding like they’re trying too hard. There’s something refreshingly raw about how unapologetically loud and angsty it gets. You know those moments where life feels like a dumpster fire? Well, crank this track, and suddenly the dumpster fire seems... kinda cool? Weird flex, but okay. Let’s not forget the production quality—it’s slick without losing its edge. Whoever worked on this clearly knew their stuff. Everything sits perfectly in the mix; nothing feels overwhelming or drowned out. Kudos to Arising Empire for letting Aviana do their thing while keeping things tight. Now, if I’m being brutally honest, Red Sky isn’t gonna blow your mind like some groundbreaking masterpiece. But hey, not every album has to reinvent the wheel to be worth your time. What makes this record stand out is its balance between heaviness and melody—a blend that keeps you coming back even when you’re not sure why. Final thought: Listening to Red Sky feels like eating spicy buffalo wings—you might need a breather halfway through, but damn, it’s satisfying enough to keep going. So grab your headphones (or crank your car stereo) and give it a spin. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find yourself humming along to "Red Sky" during your next grocery run. Or maybe you'll end up questioning all your life choices. Either way, it's a win.

About Aviana

Aviana was founded in 2016 by the five musicians Marcus Vik, Marcus Heffler, Oscar Forsman, Sebastian Colque and Niclas Bergström in Gothenburg and released their first album in early 2017 Polarize. Singer Marcus Vik left the band at the end of this year and was then replaced by Joel Holmqvist. In 2019 the band switched to the German music label Arising Empire, of which 2019 the second album Epicenter was published. After the album was released, all the musicians except Joel Holmqvist left the band, so Holmqvist temporarily continued Aviana as a solo project. In March 2022 the EP Tanscendent, which consists of six songs on the following album Corporation were re-released. Corporation also includes a song that was created in collaboration with the former singer Marcus Vik. A new line-up consisting of a new guitarist, bassist and drummer could come together. The identities of the three new musicians are not known. During several live performances by the band in 2022, they were only dressed in black and performed with masks. Also their sound moved towards more complexe Deathcore, sometimes with electronic/synt and ambient vibes.
