Album Review: Las Cinco Suites Para Orquesta Volumen 2 Suites No 2 y 3 – Bach, Orquesta "Pro Arte" De Munich, Kurt Redel Alright, let’s dive into this gem of a record. Las Cinco Suites Para Orquesta Volumen 2 is one of those albums that makes you feel like you’re wearing velvet pants in a marble palace—it’s classy but not trying too hard. Released in 1973 by Fontana (outta Mexico!), it’s got all the hallmarks of Baroque brilliance with Johann Sebastian Bach flexing his genius and Kurt Redel steering the ship as conductor. The Orquesta “Pro Arte” de Munich brings its A-game here, sounding crisp enough to make your ears perk up like they just heard someone opening a bag of chips. Now, I gotta say—the lineup is stacked. You’ve got Maurice André on trumpet for a couple tracks, Leonard Hokanson tickling the cimbalom (whatever the heck that is—it sounds cool though), and even Kurt Redel himself moonlighting on flute for some tunes. It’s like an orchestra party where everyone brought their favorite instrument. Let me zoom in on two standout tracks from this album because, honestly, my brain can’t hold all the goodness at once. First off, there’s “Air - Gavotte I-II - Bourrée - Gigue”—which might be the longest title ever written since… well, probably since Bach was alive. But don’t let the name scare ya; this piece hits different. The opening "Air" section feels like floating on a cloud made of whipped cream and existential dread. Like, how does something so simple—a lil’ string melody—make you want to cry happy tears while also questioning your life choices? That’s Bach magic right there. And then when the Gigue kicks in? Forget about it. Your feet start tapping whether you like it or not. It’s impossible not to move to this one—it’s bouncy, lively, and kinda makes you wanna grab a powdered wig and waltz around your living room. Then we’ve got “Polonaise - Menuet - Badinerie,” which closes out the suite. Oh man, the Badinerie is where things get spicy. This track is basically what happens if Mozart and Bugs Bunny had a baby—it’s playful, cheeky, and just plain fun. The flute work here (props to Redel) dances circles around your head, leaving you dizzy in the best way possible. If you’re not smiling by the end of this, check your pulse—you might be part robot. What sticks with me about these tracks isn’t just how technically impressive they are—it’s how human they feel. Yeah, sure, it’s classical music, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. There’s wit, charm, and a little bit of sass hidden between the notes. Plus, listening to this album feels like stepping back in time without having to deal with smallpox or corsets, which is always a win. So yeah, Las Cinco Suites Para Orquesta Volumen 2 isn’t perfect—it’s maybe a touch too polished for some rebellious punk rockers—but dang if it doesn’t remind you why old-school composers still rule. Listening to this album feels like borrowing someone else’s fancy car for a day—you know you’ll never own it, but wow, isn’t it nice to pretend? Final thought: Whoever decided to put Bach together with a Mexican label deserves a medal. Maybe a golden harpsichord. Or at least a high-five through history.

About Bach, Orquesta "Pro Arte" De Munich, Kurt Redel

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Las Cinco Suites Para Orquesta Volumen 2 Suites No 2 y 3* features a unique mix of talent. It includes legendary trumpeter Maurice André, who adds his magic to tracks B1 and B2. What makes this even more special? The flute parts on tracks A1, A2, and A3 are played by none other than Kurt Redel, the conductor himself! It’s rare to see a conductor step into the role of a soloist, but that’s exactly what happens here. Recorded in Mexico in 1973, this Baroque masterpiece brings together musicians from different corners of the world, blending their skills into one timeless piece of art.
