Beach Baby - Limousine

Review by Alison Withers

Limousine by Beach Baby: A Ride You Won’t Forget (But Might Get Lost In) Let’s talk about Limousine by Beach Baby, an album that feels like a road trip through Europe in 2015—with the windows down, hair messed up, and no GPS. It’s got this raw charm, blending Alternative Rock, Indie vibes, and just enough pop sensibility to keep you hooked without feeling too polished. The band teamed up with some killer talent behind the scenes—Adam Jaffrey on production duties, Cenzo Townshend mixing it all together, and Robin Schmidt mastering the hell out of it. And props to Lily Rose Thomas for the cover art; it’s simple but sticks with you, kind of like the music itself. Now, let me tell ya, there are two tracks here that I can’t shake off. First is “Limousine,” which kicks things off with this dreamy yet gritty vibe. It’s not trying too hard to impress anyone, and maybe that’s why it works so well. The guitar riffs feel lazy in the best way possible, like they’re rolling along at their own pace while the lyrics pull you into this hazy world. There’s something bittersweet about how the vocals sit right on top of everything—not overdone, not undercooked. Just… perfect. Every time I hear it, I’m back in my early twenties, stuck somewhere between wanting freedom and being terrified of it. Then there’s “Ladybird,” which hits different. This one sneaks up on you. At first, it sounds like your typical indie rock anthem, but then the chorus explodes, and suddenly you’re singing along even though you didn’t mean to. It’s catchy as hell, but it also has this melancholy undertone that makes you stop and think. Like, what’s the deal with ladybirds anyway? Are they symbols of luck or fleeting moments we can’t hold onto? Whatever it means, it stays with you long after the song ends. The rest of the album isn’t bad either—I mean, tracks like “Sleeperhead” and “No Mind No Money” bring their own flavor to the mix. But honestly, those two standouts make the whole ride worth it. They remind me of late-night drives, cigarettes shared with friends who aren’t really friends anymore, and conversations that felt deep at the time but probably weren’t. Here’s the thing about Limousine: it doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it takes the wheel, drives it down winding roads, and lets you enjoy the view. Sure, it might get a little messy along the way, but isn’t that life? Albums like this don’t come around often—they’re more like postcards from another era, snapshots of where a band was at a specific moment in time. Oh, and fun fact: Beach Baby self-released part of this album under Handsome Dad Records. How cool is that? Feels like they were saying, “Hey, we trust ourselves enough to put this out into the world.” And honestly, good call. Because if you’re gonna hitch a ride with anyone in 2015, Beach Baby would’ve been the ones to pick. So yeah, give Limousine a spin. Maybe it’ll take you places you didn’t expect. Or maybe it won’t. Either way, isn’t that kinda beautiful?
