Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs were an Australian pop and rock group dating from the mid-1960s. The origins of the band name began with which were renamed Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs when joined as lead singer. The original band members quit in 1965 over a financial dispute and Billy Thorpe reformed the group with a new line-up. The group enjoyed success, but split in 1967. They re-emerged in the early 1970s to become one of the most popular Australian hard-rock bands of the period. The band ended in 1975.

Chuck Berry never sang CC Rider like this !!! Wow. It was an electrifying performance by Billy Thorpe. It was such an exciting moment in Australian Rock music.
???????????⚡⚡⚡⚡?????????????????????
I have great memories of seeing this performance live at Sunbury 72. Also I had the LP and just about wore it out.
Here is Billy Thorpe's whole musical journey - From Australia to the US, and back to Australia again :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0Px-Rg7JEo&list=PLo0tzmnlxcWkk_yUX9DEHxe4c_wuLQFg7
MEMORIES - Sunbury, 3 years in a row for me. I loved how Billie unashamedly brought back classics and made them his own, and certainly added some ooomph.
I remember seeing this way back in 1972...@ Sunbury! Awesome then, awesome still!!
Awesome!
I'm on page# 284 of 'Jimmy Barnes Working Class Boy' book (Chrissie prezzie from Santa - my wife 2016) and I'll write it straight from the page; "Now, the reason I wanted to go (to the Sunbury Rock Festival 1972) was to see Billy Thorpe. He was my hero. He played louder and faster than anyone else in the country". I guess that's pretty high praise from Barnesy. If you want more I'm afraid you are going to have to get it out at your local library. You won't be disappointed. I've returned to write a little more though not from Barnsey's book. Billy Thorpe And The Aztecs were the inaugural 'Pub Rock' band that pioneered the Australian rock and rock style 'Pub Rock in the early '70s! Now that's very cool. Over here in New Zealand there was definitely a similar style in the '70s as well. Gotta say though this Aussie artist Billy Thorpe And The Aztecs were superb and I just so love this live album taken from the 1972 Sunbury Rock Festival that Jimmy Barnes attended. L.S. (Kiwi)
Don't remember certain parts of '72 Sunbury (lmao) but I sure as shit remember this segment. Imho, best part of the whole fucking concert. Magic.
'Time To Live' sounds like a much slower, less heavy, version, or vice-versa, of 'Mama'. Or 'Momma' as it is down on the album. Preferred the GTK version of 'Mama' much much better, ever though this version on here is pretty good.
Rock God rest in peace
Excelente festival -y la gran actuación de Billy Thorpe y the Aztecs- RIP - BILLY THORPE
Super !!!!!
Thank you so much, brother. Fucking awesome :-)
We had a lot of good rock bands in Oz in the 70's, but Billy and the Aztecs were different in one key respect - they were the best. I still dig Aztec Energy today.
You'll always be rockin Thorpie
Memories of the bowl
The best rock and roller in Oz history
If ya do a thumbs down on this, ya a wanker
Almost 50 years ago, I still remember the buzz. ROCK ON.
The greatest
What a fucking awesome Aussie, respect.
How fucking loud was that!!
I'm still deaf!
I'm still deaf!
Happy Birthday Billy (29 March 1946 – 28 February 2007) R.I.P. Thanks For The Music
I love it! His voice here reminds me so much of Burton Cummings esp from live versions of American Woman
At 1:26 - is that Molly Meldrum?
Notice the awesome security barriers? 6 inch ringlock- and everyone respected it.
Puckin' loved Torpie! We used to play the album over and over!
2 Years later, I was an underage teen at the International Hotel with my mates in Tullamarine watching Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. Next band was Lobby Lloyd and the Coloured Balls. A top night. I got home in time and parents thought I was at a mate's place. His father (a Nazi war prisoner/survivor) knew where we were and covered for me. That man is still alive at 101 - a man I treasure for beating the Nazis through simple survival in the best place he could have chosen for mixing in - Australia
