Album Review: Élémentaire by BLEU REINE – A Folk Rock Gem from France If you’re into music that feels like a warm hug but still packs a punch, Élémentaire by BLEU REINE is worth your attention. Released in 2019 under Sanit Mils Records, this French album blends rock and traditional folk into something uniquely its own—folk rock with soul. It’s the kind of record that makes you want to sit by an open window, sip coffee, or just wander through autumn leaves. The standout tracks for me are “A l’autre bout de moi” and “Les yeux fermés.” Both songs stick in my head not because they’re flashy, but because they feel honest. Take “A l’autre bout de moi,” for instance. The guitar work by Léa Lotz (who also handles vocals, bass, and keys—what a powerhouse!) has this raw, almost hesitant quality, like she’s figuring things out as she goes. And her voice? It’s soft yet commanding, like someone whispering secrets only you can hear. You don’t need to understand every word to get the emotion—it’s universal. Then there’s “Les yeux fermés,” which hits different. With Rodolphe Lauretta’s saxophone weaving in and out, it adds this dreamy layer that pulls you deeper into the track. I found myself zoning out during the instrumental breaks, letting the melody wash over me. It’s one of those songs where closing your eyes feels mandatory—not optional. What strikes me most about Élémentaire is how cohesive it feels despite its variety. Credit goes to the tight-knit team behind it: Arnault Destal and Benoît Fournier on drums, Warren Dongué and Éric Bouroukhoff handling recording duties, and mastering wizard Benoît Roux polishing everything up. They didn’t overproduce it; instead, they let the music breathe. That takes guts in today’s world of loud-and-perfect albums. One quirky detail? There are two versions each of “La nuit” and “Les yeux fermés.” At first, I thought it was a mistake, but then I realized it wasn’t. Maybe it’s intentional—a way to show growth or perspective shifts within the same idea. Either way, it made me smile. In the end, Élémentaire isn’t perfect. Some transitions feel abrupt, and a few tracks blend together if you’re not paying close attention. But isn’t that kinda beautiful? It’s real, unpolished, and human. Listening to it feels less like consuming art and more like eavesdropping on someone’s inner thoughts. Final thought? This album reminds me of why we love music—it doesn’t have to shout to be heard. Sometimes, all it needs is heart. Oh, and maybe a killer sax solo.

Interesting fact about Album

Here's an interesting fact about the album *Élémentaire* by BLEU REINE: Léa Lotz is basically a one-woman powerhouse. She not only sings but also plays guitar, bass, and keyboards on the album. It’s rare to see one artist take on so many roles, especially in a genre like Folk Rock, where each instrument adds layers of texture. The album feels deeply personal, almost like she’s inviting you into her world. Oh, and fun detail—there are two tracks named *La Nuit* and *Les Yeux Fermés*, but they’re slightly different from their duplicates (*La nuit* and *Les Yeux Fermés*). Maybe it’s a nod to how small changes can completely shift meaning or mood. Either way, it’s fascinating.
