Blood - Recognize Yourself

Recognize Yourself by Blood: A Brutal Grindcore Masterpiece That Doesn’t Hold Back If you’re into music that feels like getting punched in the gut while simultaneously having your brain rewired, Recognize Yourself by Blood is gonna be right up your alley. Released in 2016 under Wild Rags Records (US) and Bizarre Leprous Production (Czech Republic), this album fuses grindcore chaos with death metal precision. And damn, does it deliver. Let’s start with “Febrile Massacre.” This track hits like a runaway freight train covered in barbed wire. The drums—courtesy of Ventilator—are so relentless they could power a small city. Paired with Chicken’s vocals, which sound like he gargled broken glass for breakfast, the whole thing just explodes outta nowhere. It’s one of those songs where halfway through, you forget how to breathe because there’s no time to inhale before the next riff smashes into you. You’ll remember it not just because it’s brutal but because it’s got these tiny moments of melody buried deep in the madness. Like finding gold in a landfill. Then there’s “Recognize Yourself,” the title track. If ever a song lived up to its name, this is it. It starts off deceptively calm, almost teasing you, then BAM—it rips open like a chainsaw slicing through plywood. Eisen’s guitar work here is insane; every note sounds like it was played by someone who hates their instrument but loves making it suffer. Taki’s basslines rumble underneath everything, giving the chaos some weird kind of structure, like scaffolding on a building made entirely of razor blades. By the end, you’re left wondering if you should applaud or call an exorcist. The production quality deserves props too. Mixed and mastered by Allan and Rainer, it strikes a perfect balance between raw aggression and clarity. Each instrument cuts through without stepping on the others’ toes, even when the whole thing sounds like organized chaos. Oh, and can we talk about Blum’s cover art? Creepy as hell, but it fits the vibe perfectly—a visual punch to match the auditory one. What really makes this album stick though is its unpredictability. One second you’re headbanging like a maniac, the next you’re hit with something so dissonant it makes your ears question all their life choices. Tracks like “Aggravation” and “Terroraise” keep things fresh, never letting you settle into a groove for too long. Even the photography by Blood and T. Sand adds to the gritty DIY aesthetic that screams authenticity over polish. So yeah, Recognize Yourself isn’t for everyone. If you prefer your music safe and predictable, steer clear. But if you dig stuff that challenges you, pushes boundaries, and occasionally tries to eat your soul, this is worth every listen. Honestly, I think my neighbors might hate me now after blasting “Febrile Massacre” five times in a row—but hey, sacrifices gotta be made for art, right? Final thought: Listening to this album feels like surviving a car crash—you walk away bruised but kinda proud of yourself. Or maybe that’s just me. Either way, Blood knows what they’re doing.

About Blood

German grindcore band Eisen, Taki, Geier and Radtke formed the German Grindcore act Blood in March, 1986. Originally just a band in which the members would only record and write material out of boredom, the band changed and become a full, serious unit when Ventilator joined them a year after their formation. The 'new' Blood eventually recorded and released three demos: "Heinous Noise" (1987), "Spasmo Paralytic Dreams" (1988) and "No Regret" (1988) and was able to obtain a record deal to release their debut full length, "Impulse to Destroy". Thanks to the general success the album was able to gain, Blood released another official release, the "Recognize Yourself" EP. After some absence, "Christbait" was released in 1992, followed a year later by what is thought by many as the band's biggest success, "O Agios Pethane". The band continued increasing in fame and "Mental Conflict" (LP, 1994) and "Spittle Red of Blood" (EP, 1995) were recorded and released. Blood was now quite popular amongst the underground fanbases, and were able to tour with various Grind/Death acts such as Fear of God, Dismember, Atrocity and Cripple Bastards. Their mixture of Grindcore and Death Metal sounded unique to many and it was evident that the band could only grow bigger. Following nearly every release, various line-up changes but the band was able to establish and keep their latest for quite a while. "Depraved Goddess" was self-released sometime in 1996. The band's latest efforts are "Gas, Flames, Bones" (1999) and 2003's "Dysangelium". Since May 2014 the band features again the original line-up from 1988. Current members: Martin Jäger alias or - Vocals (August 1988 - January 1992, March 1993 - November 1993, May 2014 - present) Bernd Eisenstein alias Destroyer Eisen - Guitar & backing vocals (March 1986 - present) Taki alias Satanic Taki - Bass (March 1986 - present) Ventilator - Drums (June 1987 - November 2013, May 2014 - present) Former members: Slaughter Geier - Vocals (March 1986 - December 1987) Bestial Bernd - Vocals (January 1988 - June 1988) Chuck - Vocals (July 1988 - August 1988) Alex Schulze - Vocals (February 1992 - February 1993) Claus P. Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a cool fact: The album *Recognize Yourself* by Blood is a wild mix of grindcore and death metal, released in 2016 across the US and Czech Republic. What makes it stand out? It’s a true team effort. For example, the band credits not just its core members but also specific roles like "Lacquer Cut By" and even photography duties shared between Blood and T. Sand. Oh, and get this—the track *Febrile Massacre* is as intense as the collaboration behind it. Grindcore and death metal fans probably loved every second of it.
