Album Review: Funky Eyes Two Women by Jesse Gee Jesse Gee’s Funky Eyes Two Women is a groovy little gem that brings the heat with its soul-soaked vibes and funky swagger. Released under O.T.G. Records, this US-based artist dives deep into the roots of Funk and Soul, delivering an album that feels like a warm hug from the ‘70s but with a fresh twist. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. What it does, it does damn well—make you move. The opening track, “Two Women,” hits you right off the bat with its infectious bassline and smooth vocals. There’s something about the way Gee layers the horns over the rhythm section—it’s understated yet packs a punch. The lyrics tell a story of love and duality, but honestly? You might get too lost in the groove to pay attention at first. That’s the magic of it; you can vibe out or dive deeper, depending on your mood. This tune sticks with me because it’s got that rare combo of being both laid-back and impossible to sit still to. Then there’s “Funky Eyes,” which might just be my favorite cut on the record. The guitar work here is killer—sharp, snappy, and dripping with attitude. Paired with Gee’s vocal delivery, it’s the kind of track that makes you wanna grab someone’s hand and hit the dance floor (even if no one’s watching). The chorus has this addictive quality, almost hypnotic, like those eyes he’s singing about. I found myself humming it hours later, much to my own surprise. What stands out most about Funky Eyes Two Women is how unpretentious it feels. Jesse Gee isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel—he’s just rolling it down a hill with style. Sure, some transitions between tracks could feel tighter, and a few moments drift into familiar territory, but hey, sometimes comfort food for the ears is exactly what you need. In the end, this album reminds me of why funk and soul never go out of fashion. They’re timeless, raw, and human. Listening to Funky Eyes Two Women, I couldn’t help but think: man, Jesse Gee must throw one helluva house party. If he ever invites me, I’m bringing the snacks.
