Album Review: Let Me Show You by Celma Ribas Alright, let’s talk about Let Me Show You, the 2016 album by Celma Ribas. If you’re into Folk, World, & Country vibes with a heavy African twist, this one’s for you. It’s got that raw Angolan soul baked right in—no frills, just pure heart. Released under Go Edições, this record feels like a warm hug from someone who gets life’s messiness but still finds beauty in it. The title track, “Let Me Show You,” is where the magic starts. It’s kinda hard not to vibe with this one. The rhythm pulls you in like a magnet, and before you know it, you're nodding your head or maybe even swaying around awkwardly in your kitchen (don’t lie, we’ve all been there). What sticks with me most is how simple yet powerful the lyrics are—they feel like an invitation to see the world through her eyes. No big metaphors or fancy words, just straight-up honesty. And honestly? That’s what makes it hit home. Another standout track is—I’ll admit, I don’t have all the names memorized—but there’s this one tune that blends traditional Angolan sounds with these lush acoustic guitar riffs. Like, dang, Celma knows how to layer instruments without overdoing it. It’s chill enough to play on repeat while doing chores but deep enough to make you stop mid-dishwashing and think, “Wait, what am I even washing these dishes for?” You know those songs that sneak up on you? This is one of them. What I love about this album is how unapologetically Angolan it feels. It doesn’t try to cater to anyone outside its roots—it just exists as itself, full of pride and authenticity. That’s rare these days when so much music feels watered down for mass appeal. Plus, Celma’s voice has this earthy texture to it, like she’s lived a thousand lives and decided to sing about them. Anyway, listening to Let Me Show You made me realize something kinda random: sometimes, music isn’t meant to change your life or blow your mind—it’s just meant to sit quietly next to you, keeping you company. And honestly? That’s more than enough. Props to Celma for creating something that feels less like an album and more like a conversation with an old friend. Now go listen to it already.
