Manfred Mann’s Earth Band – Lies Through The 80s Edit (1981): A Retro Rock Gem That Still Hits Alright, buckle up, because we’re diving into Lies Through The 80s Edit, a quirky little slice of rock history from Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. Released in ’81 under Warner Bros. Records, this album is like that one friend who shows up late to the party but still steals all the attention—unexpected, kinda bold, and oddly memorable. First off, let’s talk about the vibe. It’s got that classic pop-rock swagger mixed with just enough grit to keep things interesting. Think of it as your dad’s leather jacket paired with neon sneakers—retro cool meets modern flair. And hey, props to Manfred Mann himself for pulling double duty as both producer and maestro here. Dude clearly knew what he was doing, even if the title makes you think of some shady time traveler fibbing their way through legwarmers and big hair. Now onto the tracks. The standout? No surprises—it’s “Lies (Through The 80’s) (Edit).” This song grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. With its punchy rhythm and sharp lyrics courtesy of D. Newman, it’s basically an earworm with attitude. I mean, how can you not love a tune that feels like it belongs in an ‘80s action movie montage? Picture this: slow-motion running on a beach while dramatic synths swell in the background. Yeah, cheesy, but also kinda perfect. Another track worth mentioning is… well, honestly, most people will probably forget everything else after hearing “Lies.” But hey, isn’t that what makes albums fun? You dig around for hidden gems, only to realize the crown jewel was staring you right in the face all along. Call me lazy, call me basic, but sometimes sticking to the hits works wonders. What sticks out most about this album is how unapologetically of its time it feels. Sure, there are moments where it veers dangerously close to over-the-top cheesiness, but that’s part of the charm. It’s like flipping through an old yearbook—you cringe at the fashion choices, sure, but damn if those memories don’t hit differently. And now for my random reflection: If someone told me back in 1981 that I’d be writing about this album decades later, I’d have laughed so hard I might’ve spilled my Tab soda. Yet here we are. Funny how music has a way of sticking around longer than our questionable hairstyles or parachute pants ever could. So grab your Walkman, cue up Lies Through The 80s Edit, and remember—a little bit of nostalgia never hurt nobody. Except maybe your eardrums.

After a very successful period in the 1960's with the pop group named after him and a much less successful intermezzo in Jazz with , the South-African born keyboardist Manfred Mann (real name ) turned towards rock music. In 1971 he formed Manfred Mann's Earth Band (MMEB). Mann's use of the Moog synthesizer was key to the sound of this band. MMEB had a very successful area during the mid 1970's and early 1980's but was disbanded by Mann in 1987 after being fed up with trying to produce hit records. He started a project which was based mostly on the music of Native American Indians named and which released one album. After this Mann reformed the MMEB in 1991 and was starting again to release records with them occasionally but also to be a regular live band with extensive tours mostly in Europe until today. Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: The track "Lies (Through The 80's) (Edit)" from Manfred Mann's Earth Band’s album *Lies Through The 80s Edit* got a special edit in 1981. It wasn’t just a random tweak, though—it was made to sound fresh for radio play. Funny enough, the song still carried that classic rock vibe but with a pop twist, thanks to producer Manfred Mann himself. A cool mix of old and new, all wrapped up in one track.

I like to picture Lawrence from the movie School of Rock on keyboard for this song no matter how many times I've heard this song.
