Cher’s “It’s Too Late To Love Me Now” – A Disco Gem Worth Rediscovering Let’s talk about Cher’s 1979 album It’s Too Late To Love Me Now. Released under the Casablanca label in the UK, this pop-disco record might not be her most famous work, but it’s got enough sparkle to make you hit repeat. If you’re into retro vibes or just love a good dance floor filler, this one deserves your attention. The opening track, Shoppin’, is an absolute banger. It’s funky, upbeat, and feels like walking through a neon-lit mall in the ‘70s with big hair and even bigger dreams. The bassline slaps hard—no, really, it does—and Cher’s vocals glide over the groove effortlessly. What sticks with me is how playful it feels; it’s impossible not to imagine yourself cruising around town, wallet in hand, ready to splurge on stuff you don’t need. There’s something oddly comforting about that vibe, isn’t there? Then there’s the title track, It’s Too Late To Love Me Now. This one hits different. It’s slower, moodier, and packed with emotional weight. Cher sings as if she’s telling you a secret across a dimly lit room. The lyrics are raw, almost confessional, and they linger long after the song ends. You can hear the ache in her voice, which makes it memorable. Honestly, it feels like she’s lived every word of it, and that authenticity pulls you in deep. One thing I gotta say—this album doesn’t try too hard to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it leans into what worked back then: catchy hooks, lush arrangements, and Cher’s unmistakable tone. Sure, some parts feel dated (hello, synth solos), but that’s part of its charm. It’s like flipping through an old photo album—you notice the quirks, sure, but you also appreciate the nostalgia. Looking back, It’s Too Late To Love Me Now reminds me how timeless disco can be when done right. And here’s the kicker—it makes me wonder why more people aren’t talking about this era of Cher’s career. Maybe it’s overshadowed by her later hits, or maybe it’s just waiting for its moment to shine again. Either way, give it a spin. Who knows? You might find yourself shopping for bell-bottoms by the end of side B.
