Kill Steelz Vol.1: A Turntablist’s Playground That Still Bangs in 2023 DJ Rectangle’s Kill Steelz Vol.1 is the kind of album that makes you wanna dig out your old turntables and pretend you’re spinning at a basement party. Released back in 2006, this underground gem blends hip-hop grit with R&B/Soul vibes while throwing down some serious DJ battle tools for anyone brave enough to step up. It's raw, unfiltered, and packed with enough scratches and cuts to make even seasoned DJs nod their heads. The album rolls through an ocean of styles—turntablism, cut-up techniques, and straight-up beat wizardry—but it never feels overwhelming. Instead, it’s like Rectangle is guiding you on a journey through his world, one scratch at a time. Tracks like “Bring Out The Freak In You” and “Beat Dis Scratch” are standouts that stick with you long after the needle lifts. “Bring Out The Freak In You” hits hard right off the bat. It’s got this funky bassline that grooves so smooth you can’t help but move. But where it really shines is how Rectangle layers those razor-sharp scratches over the top—it’s like he’s daring you to keep up. You can tell this track wasn’t just mixed; it was crafted. Every slice and splice feels intentional, turning what could’ve been a simple beat into something unforgettable. If I had to pick one moment from the album that screams "classic DJ Rectangle," this would be it. Then there’s “Beat Dis Scratch.” Honestly, this one feels like a masterclass in controlled chaos. The way Rectangle chops up the breaks and flips them into something completely new? Chef’s kiss. This isn’t just music—it’s storytelling through sound. There’s a swagger here that reminds me why turntablism will always have a place in hip-hop culture. Even now, almost two decades later, it still sounds fresh as hell. What’s wild about Kill Steelz Vol.1 is how it balances being both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Sure, it dropped in ’06, but tracks like these feel timeless. Maybe it’s because they tap into something primal—the joy of hearing someone shred a beat like it owes them money. Or maybe it’s just that Rectangle knew exactly what he was doing when he put this together. One thing’s for sure: listening to this album feels like stepping into a secret club where only real heads hang out. And honestly? That’s kinda beautiful. So yeah, if you’re looking for polished production or radio-friendly bangers, this ain’t it. But if you want an album that celebrates the art of DJing in all its messy, chaotic glory, Kill Steelz Vol.1 is worth every spin. Just don’t blame me if you find yourself trying (and failing) to replicate those insane scratches on your own setup. Trust me, we’ve all been there. Oh, and fun fact: apparently, DJ Rectangle recorded most of this album late at night. Makes sense though, doesn’t it? Some beats just hit harder under moonlight.
