Album Review: Trajic Mega Mix by DJ Trajic – A House Music Gem from 1997 Released in 1997 under the label Underground Construction, Trajic Mega Mix by DJ Trajic is one of those albums that feels like a time capsule but still packs a punch today. Rooted firmly in the electronic genre with heavy influences of House and Hard House styles, this record isn’t just music—it’s an experience. Produced solely by DJ Trajic himself, it's clear he had a vision, and boy, does it show. The album dives deep into dancefloor energy right from the get-go. With tracks like “Turn That Ass Around” and “I Feel You,” you’re not just listening—you're moving. Let’s zoom in on these two because they’ve stuck with me for reasons beyond nostalgia. “Turn That Ass Around” hits hard, no doubt about it. It’s got that classic Hard House beat—pounding kicks layered over sharp hi-hats—but what makes it unforgettable is its playfulness. The vocal sample repeats relentlessly, almost taunting you to do exactly as the title suggests. I remember hearing this track at some point (probably way too late at night) and thinking, "This guy gets it." He knows how to make people lose themselves on the floor. It’s raw, unapologetic, and fun—a perfect snapshot of ‘90s club culture. Then there’s “I Feel You.” This one slows things down just enough to let the groove sink in. There’s something hypnotic about the bassline—it crawls up your spine and settles in your chest. Paired with sultry vocals, it creates this vibe that’s both intimate and electric. If “Turn That Ass Around” is for losing control, then “I Feel You” is for locking eyes across the room. It’s proof DJ Trajic wasn’t just aiming for bangers—he wanted moments. Other standouts include “Pants R’ Saggin,” which brings humor into the mix without sacrificing rhythm, and the chaotic brilliance of “DJ Trajic Megamix,” where everything comes together in a frenetic celebration of sound. But honestly? Every track adds something unique. Whether it’s the Latin-infused beats of “Ponte A Bailar” or the relentless drive of “Stomp,” there’s no filler here. What strikes me most about Trajic Mega Mix is how personal it feels despite being so high-energy. You can tell DJ Trajic poured his soul into this project. Sure, it’s not polished to perfection—there are minor imperfections here and there—but maybe that’s why it works. It’s real. It’s gritty. And yeah, it’s kinda messy in the best possible way. Reflecting on this album now, I can’t help but think about how much has changed since 1997. Back then, House music was all about underground vibes and secret parties held in warehouses nobody could find unless they knew someone who knew someone. Today, we’ve got algorithms recommending tracks before we even know we want them. Don’t get me wrong—I love convenience as much as anyone—but albums like Trajic Mega Mix remind us of what happens when passion meets freedom. So if you’re looking for something fresh yet rooted in the golden era of electronic music, give this one a spin. Just don’t blame me if you catch yourself stomping around your living room at 2 AM.

About DJ Trajic

Chicago-based pioneer of 1990s hard house. He's considered a pioneer and legend of the 90's Hard House movement. His long list of records, remixes and international appearances credits him as one of the most popular and accomplished DJ/Producers of his time. In 1985, Carlos Kool Kutt Gomez began his musical journey no different than most bedroom DJs hoping to someday leave a mark in the industry. With cheap turntables and a Radio Shack (Realistic) mixer, he began to blend beats, scratches, and later incorporated sampling and editing techniques. In 1989, a friend persuaded Carlos to participate in a DJ battle which he won... giving him his first club residency. In the early 90's his career was on pause and couldn't gain momentum. Unable to play the dance music politics, he switched genres and teamed up with Chicago Rap group O.C.U. (Organized Crime Unit) Due to the group's gangster style hip hop genre, the members changed his stage name from Kool Kutt to DJ Tragic. While working with O.C.U. he met his mentor and super producer Peter Black. Soon after, Carlos assisted Peter on several albums including O.C.U's Stronger Than The Mafia on K Tel Records, and Krashman's album Black Circle on ISLAND Records. Soon after, Carlos veered away from the hip hop scene and continued his interest in dance music. But first, he revised his stage name by replacing the G with a J and DJ TRAJIC was born. In late 1993, he met Underground Construction (UC) president Andy Adams and in 1994 UC agreed to release both Soul Patrol and Orgy Trax simultaneously... unfortunately no producer credit was given for Orgy Tracks due to lessons since learned in the industry. Soon after the release of Soul Patrol, TRAJIC gave birth to his mega hit Show Me Your Face. It was then that his International status began. UC established licensing agreements with record labels in Brazil, Mexico and Europe. This gained TRAJIC's momentum to soon be UCs first touring Dj/Producer. With follow up releases Latinos In The House, L.A.W's Remember The Times, Anastasia's All Men R Dogs, Sex Krazed Superstars Feeling Horny and Pants R Saggin, TRAJIC continued to release back to back records just to keep up with demand, while other labels waited in line with attempts to solicit a Chronic Remix. TRAJIC went on to produce well over 100+ records and remixes for major label artists. His influence is reflected with many top rated DJ/Producers of today and his tracks can always be heard through licensed mix compilations and social media "tribute mixes" by DJ fans worldwide. In 2006, TRAJIC launched his own label in partnership with various digital download distributors. Nemek Music Group (Nemek) has since re-released much of TRAJIC's catalog plus releases from many other talented producers. Today, DJ TRAJIC continues to work behind the scenes and mentors many young up and coming artists and producers. Selected remixes from his discography are also scheduled.
