Fey - Move It

Review by Gustavo Miranda

Alright, let’s dive into Move It by Fey, a solid slice of late '90s Euro House that still hits the spot if you’re in the mood for some dance floor vibes. Released in 1998 under Sony in the US, this album is pure energy wrapped up in four tracks—well, technically remixes—but who’s counting? It’s all about getting your body moving, and honestly, it does just that. First off, the title track, "Move It (Rhythm Moves The Dance Floor Mix)", is an absolute banger. I mean, come on, the name says it all. This one grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you till you can’t help but nod along. The beat is relentless, like a caffeinated heartbeat that refuses to quit. What sticks with me is how smooth yet punchy it feels—like someone took a classic house groove and gave it a shiny coat of futuristic gloss. You can tell this was made at a time when electronic music was still figuring out its swagger, and man, does it have confidence. If you’ve ever been stuck in traffic and needed something to snap you out of a funk, this track could do the trick. Then there’s "Mambo (Club Mix)". Oh, this one's sneaky. At first, it lulls you in with its mellow intro, but before you know it, BAM—you’re fully submerged in a sea of synths and basslines. The mambo influence gives it this spicy, almost cheeky vibe, like it’s daring you to try and sit still while listening. Spoiler alert: you won’t. It’s impossible not to imagine yourself in some neon-lit club, surrounded by people who are way cooler than you but don’t care because everyone’s vibing together. Weirdly enough, this track always reminds me of those late-night TV infomercials selling “revolutionary” exercise gear—like, if they had played this instead of generic stock music, we’d all be fitter. Now, here’s the thing about Move It: it’s short, sweet, and to the point. No frills, no filler, just straight-up Euro House goodness. In a world where albums often feel overstuffed, this one knows exactly what it wants to be—a party starter. And honestly? That’s refreshing. But here’s the kicker—it makes me wonder why more artists don’t embrace this kind of minimalism today. Like, maybe we need fewer 20-track albums and more tight-knit projects like Move It. Or maybe I’m just nostalgic for the days when dancing didn’t require overthinking. Either way, props to Fey for keeping it real (and ridiculously catchy).

María Fernanda Blázquez Gil (Mexico City, Mexico, July 21, 1973) known as Fey, is a Mexican pop and electronic music singer. After being a backing vocalist for a group and rejected by record labels in her country, she released her debut album Fey (1995). Since the release of this album, the singer acquired a vast fame in Latin America that was reflected in subsequent albums such as Tierna la noche (1996) and El color de sueños (1998). His career took a resounding change when he released his fourth album, Vertigo (2002). In 2009, he presented his album Dulce temptación with which he successfully re-entered the Mexican music charts despite the fact that its distribution fell to an independent record company. That same year he founded his own record company Elephant Music. She set a record in the National Auditorium of Mexico, filling it 11 times in 1997 (of which 10 were consecutive) and 4 in 1999, for which she received a mention in said auditorium for being the first sold-out female soloist, with an average of 10,000 people in each presentation for his Tender Tour at night. Fey has sold 25 million records, making her one of the biggest record sellers in her country. In 1998, Billboard magazine awarded her in the category of "best Latin artist". She participated as a jury on the Mexican program Bailando por un sueño (2014).
