Album Review: Stupid People by MEB – A Crusty French Rock Gem from 2004 Alright, let’s talk about Stupid People by MEB. This crusty little rock beast came outta France in 2004 and slapped listeners with its raw energy and pissed-off vibes. Released on Not On Label (yep, they really went indie with that one), it's the kind of album that feels like a punch to the gut—in the best way possible. First off, kudos to the crew behind this chaos. You’ve got Corbel and Moon sharing vocal duties while also shredding guitars and bass, Sam smashing drums like his life depends on it, and Loulou pulling double duty as both recording engineer and mixer. The artwork? That’s Milouf flexing their creative muscles, giving us something gnarly to stare at while we blast these tunes. And shoutout to Alfred Foto for snapping pics that match the gritty vibe. Now, onto the tracks. There are seven songs here, each packed with attitude, but two stood out for me: “Fuck The World” and “Stupid People.” “Fuck The World” kicks things off with a bang—or more like an explosion. It’s fast, loud, and unapologetic, kinda like flipping society the bird without caring who sees it. The riffs hit hard, and Corbel’s vocals sound like he’s screaming into the void. Honestly, I couldn’t get this track out of my head because it’s so damn cathartic. If you’ve ever felt fed up with everything, this song will make you feel less alone in your rage. Then there’s the title track, “Stupid People.” Man, this one hits different. It slows things down just enough to let the lyrics sink in—like a sarcastic commentary on human stupidity wrapped in crunchy guitar tones. Moon’s basslines rumble underneath, adding weight to the whole thing. By the end, you’re left wondering if they’re calling you stupid or just everyone else. Either way, it sticks with you. Other tracks like “Traffic Land” and “Money Money” keep the momentum going, ranting about modern frustrations and societal nonsense. But honestly, it’s those first couple of bangers that really cemented this album in my brain. So yeah, Stupid People isn’t perfect—it’s rough around the edges, the production has that DIY charm, and some might call it too abrasive. But isn’t that what makes it awesome? It’s real. No filters, no gimmicks, just pure pissed-off rock ‘n’ roll straight from the heart of France. Here’s the kicker though: after listening to this album, I started thinking—maybe we are all stupid people deep down. Or maybe MEB just wanted us to laugh at ourselves while headbanging. Either way, mission accomplished. Final verdict: If you dig crust punk mixed with raw rock fury, grab this album ASAP. Just don’t blame me when your neighbors complain about the noise.
