Halo Manash - Walkeus

Walkeus by Halo Manash: A Dark Ambient Journey That Sticks With You If you’re into stuff that’s eerie yet strangely beautiful, Walkeus by Halo Manash is an album worth diving into. Released in 2016 under Finland's Aural Hypnox label, this dark ambient masterpiece feels like walking through a foggy forest at midnight—unsettling but oddly mesmerizing. The duo behind it, Anti Ittna H. and Iwo Hoccuc, have crafted something that lingers long after the last note fades. One track that really stuck with me is “Luiden Lukija.” It opens with these haunting drones that sound like distant machinery humming in some forgotten factory. But then there are these subtle layers of crackles and whispers creeping in, almost as if ghosts were trying to tell you secrets you’re not sure you want to hear. There’s no beat, no melody in the traditional sense, but man—it pulls you in. It’s one of those tracks where you stop whatever you're doing just to listen closely. You can practically feel the cold air around you while it plays. Another standout is “Hänesä Henget Eläwät,” which translates roughly to "In Its Spirit Alive" (or so Google tells me). This one feels more alive than the title suggests though—it builds slowly, layer upon layer of echoing tones until it becomes this dense wall of sound. Around the halfway mark, there’s this moment where everything drops out except for this faint bell-like chime that keeps repeating. It’s simple, sure, but it hits hard because it breaks up all the heaviness before crashing back in again. Tracks like this remind me why I love dark ambient music—it doesn’t need words to make you feel things. What makes Walkeus stand out isn’t just its atmosphere; it’s how personal it feels. Listening to it, you get the sense that Anti and Iwo didn’t set out to create background noise—they wanted to build worlds. And they succeed. Every creak, every drone feels intentional, like pieces of a puzzle coming together to form something bigger than the sum of its parts. Finishing the album, I found myself sitting in silence for a bit, letting it sink in. Honestly, albums like this don’t come around often. In a world full of loud beats and flashy production, Walkeus reminds us that sometimes the most powerful sounds are the ones we barely notice at first. Oh, and here’s a random thought—if this album had a smell, it’d probably be wet moss and old books. Just saying.

About Halo Manash

Dark ambient / experimental project from Finland, combining electronics, percussions, e-bowed guitars, bone flute and various other sounds. Halo Manash began around 1998 as a nameless project (containing only Anti Ittna H.) It is the aim of the personnel involved in Halo Manash to seek, explore, experience, study and decipher reflections of the ever-shifting shapes and spaces of different worlds. These findings are presented through Elemental Music and various visual elements. In Halo Manash, sound and movement come together as rhythmical language that facilitates communion with elemental beings. Our aim is to revitalise one of the oldest subconscious forms of communication, to open the gates with the aid of music and widen the horizon of perception concerning states of otherness lying in-between the cardinal directions. Halo Manash is a pilgrimage to the borderlands of dreams, pure consciousness, and primal being.
