Tekno 2 - Psycho

Psycho by Tekno 2: A Techno Trip Down Memory Lane (Or Was It Just Last Night?) Alright, let’s talk about Psycho by Tekno 2. Released in '91 under D-Zone Records, this UK-born album is a no-nonsense dive into the world of techno and dance music. Produced and written by Andre Jacobs, with engineering wizardry from Mike Gray, it's got that raw, warehouse-party vibe that screams “I haven’t slept in 48 hours.” And honestly? That’s exactly what makes it so damn fun. Now, you might be wondering why an album with one word for a title has five versions of the same track. But hey, repetition doesn’t mean boredom here—it means evolution. Each remix twists the original just enough to keep your ears guessing, like when you accidentally spill glitter on your shoes but then realize it actually looks kinda cool. Let me break down two tracks that stuck with me harder than last week’s hangover: First up, "Psycho (Live In Essex Mix)". This version slaps. It’s gritty, punchy, and feels like someone handed a drum machine to a caffeinated squirrel. The beat hits hard without overthinking itself, which is perfect because sometimes all you need is something simple to get weird to. Plus, there’s this nagging little synth riff halfway through that sounds like your brain trying to escape—relatable, right? Then there’s "Psycho (6 A.M. Version)", which is basically the afterparty personified. By now, everyone’s lost their voices screaming lyrics they don’t know, and this track matches that energy perfectly. It starts off slowish, almost teasing you, before dropping into a bassline that could wake the dead—or at least the neighbors. If ever there was a soundtrack for staring blankly at sunrise while questioning life choices, this would be it. The other mixes are solid too, though they blur together after a while. Still, props to Tekno 2 for not phoning it in—they clearly wanted to experiment, even if it meant giving us slightly too many Psychos. Looking back, Psycho isn’t groundbreaking or revolutionary. It won’t change how you think about music unless you’re high on Red Bull and nostalgia. But maybe that’s the point. Sometimes albums aren’t meant to reinvent the wheel; sometimes they’re just there to make you move—and boy, does this one deliver. Final thought? Listening to this album feels like finding an old mixtape in the bottom of a drawer. You remember bits of it fondly, but mostly you’re left wondering where you were and who you were dancing with back then. Or maybe that’s just me. Either way, crank it up loud—you’ll thank me later…or possibly regret it tomorrow morning.
