Album Review: La Création by Haydn – A Divine Journey You Can’t Ignore Alright, let’s talk about La Création (The Creation), the iconic oratorio by Joseph Haydn, performed here with gusto by an all-star lineup including Elly Ameling, Tom Krause, and the Orchestre Philharmonique De Vienne under Karl Münchinger. Released on Decca, this French gem dives deep into classical music territory, blending soaring vocals, lush orchestration, and a sense of awe that feels almost… celestial. If you’re into choral masterpieces, this one's gonna hit different. Now, I’ll be honest—this isn’t your casual playlist material. It’s heavy stuff, but in the best way possible. The album is split into three parts, each packed with dramatic flair and intricate details. But two tracks really stuck with me: "1ère Partie - Introduction - N° 1-8" and "3ème Partie - N° 29-34." Let me break it down for ya. First off, the intro track ("1ère Partie - Introduction") kicks things off like a sunrise you didn’t know you needed. The orchestra builds up slowly, layer by layer, until BAM—it hits you right in the soul. There’s something magical about how Haydn captures chaos turning into order, like the universe itself coming alive. And when the choir joins in? Goosebumps. Wilhelm Pitz deserves props for keeping those voices tight; they sound like angels arguing over who gets to sing louder. Then there’s the final stretch ("3ème Partie"). This part wraps everything up with a mix of joy and reverence. Erna Spoorenberg’s soprano vocals shine bright here—her voice is so pure it makes you wanna drop everything and stare at the sky for a bit. The whole section feels like a big ol’ hug from God himself, if that makes sense. By the time it ends, you're left sitting there thinking, “Wait…is life actually this beautiful?” What makes this recording special is how everyone involved brings their A-game. Robin Fairhurst’s baritone adds depth, while Werner Krenn’s tenor cuts through like sunlight breaking clouds. And let’s not forget James Lock’s engineering—he somehow makes every note crisp without losing the warmth of live performance. Even the liner notes by Marc Vignal are worth reading (if you dig nerdy details). But here’s the thing—I wasn’t expecting to get emotional over a centuries-old piece about creation. Like, sure, it’s religious and grandiose, but it also feels oddly personal. Maybe it’s because we’ve all had moments where we’ve felt small yet significant, just like the story being told here. Weird flex, but listening to this made me want to call my mom and thank her for existing. So yeah, La Création isn’t just another classical album—it’s an experience. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of oratorios or someone dipping their toes into classical waters, this record will stick with you. Just don’t blame me if you start crying during breakfast.

About Haydn Ameling, Spoorenberg, Krenn, Krause, Fairhurst, Orchestre Philharmonique De Vienne, Karl Münchinger

Born: 1732-03-31 (Rohrau, Austria) Born 31 march or 1st April, 1732. Died: 1809-09-05 (Vienna, Austria). Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He brings the "sonata form" to a very high degree of improvement. His symphonies and his string quartets (forms of which he is considered "the father") have become highly inspirational style models. Haydn made a fundamental contribution to the development of chamber music; thanks to the numerous quartets, trios for piano, for strings and also with the unusual trios for baryton, viola and cello.
