Review by Dan Phale

Fenesta Vascia Vivi by I Santo California: A Retro Italian Gem That Still Hits Different Let’s cut to the chase—1977 was a wild year. Star Wars hit theaters, disco was everywhere, and somewhere in Italy, I Santo California dropped Fenesta Vascia Vivi. Yep, this Yep Record release might not have been on everyone’s radar back then, but trust me, it deserves some love today. Blending rock and pop with dashes of chanson and ballad vibes, this album feels like sipping espresso while staring at the Mediterranean Sea—smooth yet kinda bittersweet. Now, let’s zoom in on two tracks that stuck with me harder than bad hair days in humid weather: “Fenesta Vascia” and “Vivi!” First up, “Fenesta Vascia.” Oh man, this one hits you right in the nostalgia bone (even if you weren’t alive in ’77). It’s got this dreamy, almost cinematic vibe—like someone took an old black-and-white movie about longing and heartbreak and gave it a soundtrack. The melody lingers just long enough for you to hum along awkwardly before realizing you don’t actually know the words because, well, they’re in Italian. But who cares? You’ll still find yourself swaying like you’re auditioning for a spaghetti western dance scene. Then there’s “Vivi!”, which is basically the pep talk we all need when life feels like too much lasagna—rich, heavy, but ultimately comforting. This track bursts open with energy, urging you to live your best life or something poetic like that. Between Sara Simon’s vocals and the band's tight instrumentation, it’s impossible not to feel pumped—even if you’re just pretending to be motivated while folding laundry. Bonus points for its catchy hooks; they'll haunt your brain like that one mosquito buzzing around your room at 3 AM. What makes Fenesta Vascia Vivi stand out isn’t just its mix of genres or styles—it’s how unapologetically Italian it feels. There’s no trying-too-hard nonsense here. Instead, it’s raw, heartfelt, and packed with emotion, like a dramatic family dinner where everyone talks over each other but somehow ends up hugging by dessert. So yeah, sure, this album might not change your life overnight, but it’s a solid reminder of simpler times when music didn’t need flashy visuals or TikTok challenges to make an impact. And honestly? Listening to it feels like finding an old postcard from a place you’ve never been—it’s charming, mysterious, and leaves you wondering what could’ve been. Final thought: If aliens ever invade Earth and ask us to prove humanity’s worth through art, I’d hand them this album…right after pizza and Leonardo da Vinci’s resume.
