Jessica Meider - Candy

Candy by Jessica Meider: A Raw, Unfiltered Rock Gem That Still Kicks Ass Let’s cut the crap—Jessica Meider’s Candy isn’t your run-of-the-mill rock album. Released back in 2000 (yeah, Y2K was a bust, but this wasn’t), it hits hard with its mix of AOR vibes, acoustic grit, and alternative rock edge. This ain’t some polished pop-rock snooze-fest; it’s raw, real, and dripping with attitude. And honestly? It’s kinda wild that more people don’t talk about this record. Screw that—let’s fix it. First off, the tracklist slaps. Tracks like “My Baby Is The World” and “Lullaby For Nicholas” stick in your head for days, man. Like, you’ll be humming them while stuck in traffic or zoning out at work. Let’s zoom in on those two because they’re worth every damn word. “My Baby Is The World” kicks things off with this punchy, no-bullshit energy. The guitars crunch just right, and Meider’s voice has this raspy, lived-in quality that grabs you by the throat. It’s not trying to reinvent the wheel here—it’s straight-up rock ‘n’ roll done right. You feel it. No overthinking, no frills. Just pure, unadulterated badassery. If this song doesn’t make you wanna crank up the volume and scream along, check your pulse—you might be dead. Then there’s “Lullaby For Nicholas,” which flips the script entirely. It’s softer, sure, but don’t mistake soft for weak. This one sneaks up on you, all slow-burning emotion and haunting melodies. It’s the kind of track that makes you stop scrolling through your phone and actually listen. By the time the last note fades, you’re left sitting there thinking, “Wait…what just happened?” It’s heavy without being loud, if that makes sense. And damn, does it work. The rest of the album keeps the momentum going. Songs like “Try Not To Think” and “Love Is Deathless” bring their own brand of fire, mixing introspective lyrics with killer hooks. Even slower tracks like “Done Is Done” pack an emotional punch that lingers long after the music stops. There’s zero filler here—every song earns its spot. Now, let’s get real for a sec. Why the hell isn’t Jessica Meider a household name? Maybe it’s because she went the indie route, releasing this under “Not On Label.” Or maybe it’s because the music industry loves shiny distractions over substance. Either way, it’s a shame. But hey, maybe that’s part of the charm. Candy feels like a secret handshake—a hidden gem only the true fans know about. Here’s the kicker: listening to Candy today feels almost rebellious. In a world drowning in algorithmic playlists and cookie-cutter hits, this album reminds you what real music sounds like. It’s messy, unpredictable, and utterly human. So do yourself a favor: dig up a copy, crank it loud, and let it rip your soul open. Then tell everyone you know to do the same. Trust me—they’ll thank you later. Oh, and one last thing—don’t Google Jessica Meider expecting answers. She vanished from the scene faster than she arrived, leaving behind nothing but whispers and this killer record. Some mysteries are better left unsolved, though.
