Steady Pull Special Benelux Version: A Hidden Gem from Jonatha Brooke Alright, let’s talk about Steady Pull Special Benelux Version by Jonatha Brooke. Released in 2001 under Bad Dog Records, this album is a little slice of pop-rock heaven that doesn’t scream for attention but quietly pulls you in like an old friend who knows your secrets. It’s got that mix of polished melodies and raw emotion that just sticks to your soul. First off, I gotta say—"How Deep Is Your Love?" is one of those tracks that hits different every time you hear it. The lyrics are simple yet so damn relatable—like, how many times have we all been stuck wondering if someone really means what they say? And then there’s the remix version with Jim Kissling—that guy adds this dreamy layer to the song that makes it feel like you're floating through clouds while still questioning everything. Honestly, I remember humming this tune on repeat during some late-night drives when life felt too heavy. It’s not flashy, but man, does it stay with you. Then there’s "Linger." Oh, Linger. This track has this haunting vibe, almost like it’s whispering secrets directly into your ear. The way Jonatha lets her voice crack ever so slightly at moments—it’s like she’s letting you know she’s human, too. Plus, the French version, “Je Tai Dans La Paeu,” gives it this sultry twist that feels unexpected and kinda thrilling. Like finding a secret room in a house you thought you knew inside out. The rest of the album follows suit—tracks like "New Dress" and "Room In My Heart" keep things fresh without overdoing it. There’s no big explosion of sound or dramatic shifts; instead, it’s more like a steady heartbeat guiding you along. Even songs like "Secrets And Lies (Wax Factor Mix)" bring a darker edge to the mix, proving Jonatha isn’t afraid to experiment within her own style. What stands out most about this album is its honesty. You can tell Jonatha poured herself into these songs—not in some grand, theatrical way, but in those quiet moments where vulnerability shines brightest. It’s messy, beautiful, and real, which is exactly why it resonates. You know, listening to this record feels like flipping through an old photo album. Some pages make you smile, others sting a bit, but each one reminds you of something important you didn’t even realize you needed to remember. Funny thing is, I didn’t expect much from a “Benelux Version” reissue back when I first stumbled across it—but here we are, years later, and it’s still tucked away in my playlist like a well-worn favorite sweater. So yeah, maybe this album won’t change your life overnight. But if you’re looking for music that feels like a warm hug laced with bittersweet nostalgia, give Steady Pull Special Benelux Version a shot. Turns out, sometimes the best treasures aren’t the ones shouting loudest—they’re the ones waiting patiently for you to notice.

Red Dress            Jonatha Brooke
I'll wear the red dress tonight
You will reel your heart in tight
You can have the upper hand and I'll pretend to understand
Why, it came to this

How it came from there to here
How we muddied what seemed clear
Were we just doomed from the start
Undermined by simple hearts
Why'd it come to this

[Chorus: ]
Come down in silence, come down in fear
Come down in pieces
Come down in tears

Well there are days when the light hits true
Days of him days of you
Nights of sweating, toss and turn
Nights I feel your cigarette burn
Why'd it come to this

As we take our places in this charade
If the sun's too hot, well then sit in the shade
Jury's still out so we make lemonade and say
Why'd it come to this

[Chorus: ]

Well, we all get what we deserve
I get him and you get her
Given the chance I still defer
And maybe we will always wonder
Why, it came to this

So I'll wear the red dress tonight
You will reel your heart in tight
I will have the upper hand and
You will finally understand
Why, it came to this (Repeat 3X)       Written by: HEIDI RANGE, BRIAN THOMAS HIGGINS, TIMOTHY MARTIN POWELL, MIRANDA ELEANOR DE FONBRUN COOPER, KEISHA KERREECE FAYEANNE BUCHANAN, MUTYA BUENA, ROBERT EDWARD BRADLEY, NICK COLER, LISA COWLING, SHAWN LEE MAHANLyrics © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, Universal Music Publishing Group
