La Muy Bestia Pop - Deus Ex Machina

Review by Gwendoline Kerveillant

Deus Ex Machina by La Muy Bestia Pop: A Raw Industrial Post-Rock Gem from Venezuela Let’s cut to the chase: Deus Ex Machina is not your average rock album. Released in 1994 by Venezuelan band La Muy Bestia Pop, this record feels like a chaotic yet strangely beautiful machine grinding its gears in the dark. With influences spanning industrial grit and post-rock atmospheres, it’s one of those albums that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. And trust me, once it sinks its teeth in, it doesn’t let go. The album was birthed under Tralilandia Records—a label as mysterious as the music itself—and brought together some serious talent behind the scenes. Engineers like Francisco Domingo and mixing wizards such as Elmar Leal added layers of sonic wizardry, while Miguel Noya pulled double duty as both producer and mixer for half the tracks. It’s clear they weren’t messing around here; every track has this raw edge but also an undeniable polish. Now, onto the good stuff—the songs. There are ten tracks total, but two stood out so hard I had to rewind multiple times just to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. First up is “Dios Es Máquina” (both versions, because why choose?). This song hits like a punch to the gut followed by a warm hug. The opening riff grabs you by the collar and drags you into this dystopian soundscape where guitars wail like sirens and drums clatter like falling debris. By the time the vocals kick in—gruff, strained, almost desperate—you’re already knee-deep in whatever fever dream La Muy Bestia Pop wants to drag you through. What makes it stick? Maybe it’s how unapologetically loud and messy it gets without losing its soul. Or maybe it’s just the title—"God Is Machine"—that keeps looping in my head long after the song ends. Then there’s “Gato Caza Ratón,” which flips the script entirely. Where “Dios Es Máquina” is all chaos, this one feels calculated, almost playful. Imagine a cat stalking its prey across rooftops at midnight—that’s the vibe. The guitar work dances between sharp stabs and slippery slides, keeping you guessing what’s coming next. About halfway through, things take a turn into full-on noise territory before pulling back with eerie precision. You can practically hear the smirk on the band’s face as they throw curveballs left and right. It’s wild, unpredictable, and honestly kind of genius. Other tracks like “Taladro” and “Holle” deserve shoutouts too, but hey, we ain’t writing a novel here. Suffice to say, each song adds something unique to the mix, whether it’s jagged textures, haunting melodies, or rhythms that feel like they’re about to collapse under their own weight. So yeah, Deus Ex Machina is weird, intense, and occasionally downright abrasive—but that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. Listening to it feels like stumbling into a secret underground club in Caracas circa ’94, where everyone’s sweating, shouting, and vibing off pure adrenaline. Here’s the kicker though: despite being nearly three decades old, this album still sounds fresh. Like, dangerously fresh. If you told me it came out last week, I’d believe you. Maybe that’s the real magic of Deus Ex Machina—it refuses to stay stuck in the past. Or maybe it’s just proof that great art doesn’t care about timelines. Either way, crank this sucker up loud and let it blow your mind. Your neighbors will hate you, but who cares?

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Deus Ex Machina* by La Muy Bestia Pop is a hidden gem from Venezuela's rock scene. Released in 1994, it blends industrial and post-rock in a way that feels both raw and experimental. What’s wild is how the mixing duties were split among different people for almost every track—like a musical relay race. For instance, Miguel Noya handled mixing on tracks 1, 2, 4, and 7, while Elmar Leal took over track 10. And get this: the song “Dios Es Máquina” even got a sequel on the same album with “Dios Es Máquina 2.” It’s like they couldn’t resist doubling down on their own creation. Definitely an album worth checking out if you’re into boundary-pushing rock vibes.
