Album Review: Sick Of Trance They Have Forgotten The Machines by Lacuna Origin Alright, so let’s talk about this gem from 2007—Sick Of Trance They Have Forgotten The Machines by Lacuna Origin. It’s one of those albums that doesn’t try to be anything it’s not, which is kinda refreshing in the electronic scene. Straight-up hardstyle and techno vibes here, no frills, just raw energy. Released under Blutonium Records in Germany, this thing feels like a time capsule from when dance floors were still sacred ground. First off, big shoutout to Erik Ekholm for wearing multiple hats on this project—he wrote it, produced it, and probably had a hand in making sure it slapped as hard as it does. Mastering creds go to DJ Neo and Blutonium Boy, who clearly knew how to crank up the intensity without losing that mechanical edge. You can tell they didn’t half-ass any part of this release. Now, onto the tracks. There are only two songs on this EP (yeah, short but sweet), but both hit hard. Let’s start with “Sick Of Trance (Original Mix).” Man, this track is a beast. It kicks off with this relentless beat that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. The bassline? Pure filth. Like, imagine being at some underground club where everyone’s lost their minds dancing, sweat dripping everywhere, and THIS is what’s blasting through the speakers. What sticks with me most is how unapologetically aggressive it feels—it’s not trying to win any awards for subtlety, and that’s exactly why I dig it. Then there’s “They Have Forgotten The Machines (Hardtech Mix).” This one leans more into techno territory but keeps that industrial vibe alive. The synths have this cold, almost robotic feel, like machines mourning their own obsolescence or something deep like that. Honestly, it’s the kind of track that makes you wanna stare out a window while nodding your head, thinking about whether Skynet will ever actually happen. Not gonna lie, the title alone gives me existential vibes, and the music matches that mood perfectly. What really stands out about this album is its simplicity. No fancy concepts, no overproduced nonsense—just solid beats designed to make you move. Sometimes less really is more, y’know? And yeah, maybe calling it an ‘album’ is stretching it since it’s technically an EP, but who cares? Quality over quantity, right? So yeah, if you’re into hardstyle or techno and want something that’ll punch you in the gut while also making you think about our relationship with technology, check this out. Weird flex, but listening to it now kinda reminds me of how much we rely on machines these days…like, would we even notice if they did forget us? Food for thought. Or maybe I’m just overthinking things after hearing too many bangers. Either way, good stuff.
