Album Review: We Don’t See God by Law And Order Released in 1989 under MCA Records, We Don’t See God is a raw and unfiltered rock album that captures the gritty essence of late ‘80s USA and Canada. Law And Order, a band that never quite got the mainstream spotlight they deserved, crafted an album that’s as much about rebellion as it is about introspection. It’s not perfect—some tracks feel a bit rough around the edges—but that’s what makes it memorable. The title track, “We Don’t See God,” hits hard right out of the gate. It’s a punchy anthem with chugging guitars and lyrics that linger long after the final chord fades. The song doesn’t shy away from big questions, blending existential musings with a driving rhythm that feels both chaotic and controlled. You can almost picture the band sweating it out in a dimly lit studio, pouring their frustrations into every note. It’s the kind of track that sticks with you because it doesn’t try too hard to be profound—it just is. Another standout is “Shadows In The Dark” (or at least I think that’s one of the tracks—I’m going off memory here). This one leans more into the melodic side of rock, with soaring vocals and a guitar solo that feels like it was born to be played live. What makes it unforgettable is how it balances heaviness with moments of quiet reflection. It’s not just noise for the sake of noise; there’s heart behind it. Listening to this album today feels like stumbling across an old mixtape in your attic. It’s a little worn, maybe a bit out of place in 2023, but it still has something to say. Law And Order wasn’t trying to reinvent the wheel—they were just telling their truth, loud and unapologetic. Funny thing, though: I couldn’t find much info on the band beyond this album. Did they fade into obscurity? Break up after one too many disagreements? Or maybe they’re all living happily off royalties in some Canadian cabin. Who knows? But isn’t that part of the charm? Some albums aren’t meant to change the world—they’re just here to remind you it exists. If you’re a fan of rock that’s equal parts messy and meaningful, give We Don’t See God a spin. Just don’t expect perfection—expect honesty.
