Lenny Mac Dowell - Locomotive Breath

Locomotive Breath by Lenny Mac Dowell: A Retro Rock Gem That Still Kicks Alright, let’s talk about Locomotive Breath by Lenny Mac Dowell. Released in 1978 in Germany, this album is one of those hidden treasures that doesn’t scream for attention but kinda sneaks up on you when you least expect it. It’s pop rock with a twist—catchy, raw, and unapologetically '70s. You can tell the team behind it (shoutout to producer Robby Lutter and engineer Carlos Albrecht) poured their hearts into making something that felt alive. The cover art? Simple yet striking, thanks to Uschi Ackermann. And yeah, there are some extended mixes here that make you wanna grab your dancing shoes—or at least pretend you’ve got rhythm. Now, if I had to pick two tracks that stick with me, they’d be “Locomotive Breath (Mega Dance Mix)” and “Whole Lotta Love (Extended Vocal Version).” Let’s dive in. First off, the “Mega Dance Mix” of “Locomotive Breath.” Man, this remix just hits different. If you’re familiar with the original Jethro Tull version, you’ll know how iconic that train-like rhythm is. But Lenny Mac Dowell takes it somewhere new—like, disco-infused madness territory. There’s this relentless energy pulsing through the track, and before you know it, you’re tapping your foot or maybe even spinning around like nobody’s watching. It’s not perfect—it feels a bit chaotic at times—but isn’t that what makes it fun? This song reminds me of late-night drives where everything blurs together except the music blasting from the stereo. Feels like freedom wrapped in neon lights. Then there’s “Whole Lotta Love (Extended Vocal Version),” which is… wow. Just wow. Anyone who knows Led Zeppelin’s classic will recognize the bones of the song, but this rendition stretches it out, giving it room to breathe—and belt. K.Boarder’s vocals on this one? Absolutely killer. He leans into every note like he means it, adding layers of emotion that hit you right in the chest. By the time the extended vocal section kicks in, you’re either singing along at the top of your lungs or sitting back wondering how something so loud can feel so intimate. It’s messy, bold, and utterly unforgettable—kinda like first love. What strikes me most about this album is how unpolished it feels compared to today’s overproduced standards. Back then, artists weren’t afraid to let things get a little rough around the edges, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. Listening to Locomotive Breath, you don’t just hear songs—you hear people trying stuff, experimenting, having fun. Like, imagine being in the studio with them, watching Frank Wuttke tweak the knobs while someone cracks jokes in the background. It’s human, ya know? So yeah, Locomotive Breath might not change your life, but it’ll definitely give you a few hours of pure, unfiltered joy. And hey, isn’t that enough sometimes? Life’s too short for boring music anyway. Oh, and fun fact: the labels involved were Not on Label, Harvest, EMI Electrola, and Rekord. Sounds like a weird family reunion, doesn’t it? If you ever stumble across this album in a dusty record store or an online rabbit hole, give it a shot. Who knows? Maybe it’ll remind you why we fell in love with rock ‘n’ roll in the first place. Or maybe it’ll just make you laugh. Either way, win-win.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a cool fact: The album *Locomotive Breath* by Lenny Mac Dowell is a hidden gem from 1978. It blends rock and pop rock vibes, but here’s the kicker—it wasn’t tied to just one label. Instead, it was released under multiple labels like Harvest, EMI Electrola, and Rekord. Even crazier? The track "Friday On My Mind" got a special dance remix, giving it a fresh twist years after its original release. Not your typical rock album, right?

Oh Mann !
Danke !!
