Review by Valentino Mogrezutt

Beethoven’s “Ouvertüre Leonore III Fünfte Sinfonie C Moll” – A Sonic Punch to the Gut Alright, let’s get one thing straight: this album isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for some chill beats or background noise while folding laundry, turn back now. This is Beethoven at his most raw and unapologetic, performed by André Cluytens and the Berliner Philharmoniker like it’s life or death. Electrola dropped this beast of a record, and holy crap does it hit hard. Let’s talk tracks. First up, “Sinfonie Nr. 5 C-Moll Op. 67,” specifically that opening movement—1. Satz: Allegro Con Brio. You know the one. Duh-duh-duh-DUUUH. Yeah, THAT riff. It’s iconic as hell, but hearing it here feels like getting smacked in the face with a brick wrapped in velvet. The Berliner Philharmoniker don’t just play these notes; they wrestle them into submission. Every note screams urgency, like Beethoven himself was running late for something important. And Cluytens? Dude doesn’t mess around—he drives this train right off the rails without ever losing control. By the time those strings kick in full force, you’ll either be on your feet ready to fight someone or curled up in a ball sobbing uncontrollably. No in-between. Then there’s “Ouvertüre Leonore Nr. 3 Op. 72a.” Oh man, this track is pure drama. Like, Shakespearean-level melodrama. The horns? Absolutely monstrous. They roar like lions breaking free from cages. When the timpani rolls in, it’s not just percussion—it’s an earthquake. I swear, if movies existed when Beethoven wrote this, every single action flick would’ve used it as its theme song. It builds tension so thick you could cut it with a knife, then explodes into this triumphant finale that makes you wanna throw your fists in the air and scream, “Yeah! Take THAT, fate!” What sticks with me about these two pieces isn’t just how technically brilliant they are—it’s how alive they feel. Beethoven didn’t write music; he bled it onto the page. And Cluytens and the orchestra? They channel that bloodlust perfectly. Listening to this album feels less like enjoying classical music and more like surviving a storm. A beautiful, chaotic, emotionally exhausting storm. So yeah, if you’re gonna dive into this record, buckle up. It’s not easy listening, but damn if it ain’t rewarding. Honestly, after spinning this, I kinda wish Beethoven were still alive today. Imagine him walking into a modern concert hall, hearing his work played live, and immediately starting a mosh pit. Now THAT would be something.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know? Ludwig van Beethoven's *Symphony No. 5 in C Minor* is one of the most iconic pieces in classical music. Its famous four-note opening—da-da-da-dum—has been used in countless movies, TV shows, and even ringtones. It’s said to symbolize fate knocking at the door. This masterpiece was conducted by André Cluytens with the Berliner Philharmoniker for the album *Ouvertüre Leonore III Fünfte Sinfonie C Moll*. The recording captures the raw power and emotion Beethoven poured into his work over 200 years ago. Pretty wild how music can still resonate so deeply today, right?
