Trumpet Concertos by Maurice André: A Blast from the Past That Still Shines Let’s talk about Trumpet Concertos, an album that feels like a warm cup of tea on a rainy day if you’re into classical music. Released in 1978 under EMI (UK), this gem showcases Maurice André, one of those trumpet players who makes you wonder why humans even bother with words when they can just play instruments instead. Backed by the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, he dives into works by J.S. Bach, Michael Haydn, and Telemann. It’s not groundbreaking or edgy—just pure, timeless beauty. Now, let me get personal for a sec. Two tracks stuck with me long after I hit pause: Trumpet Concerto In D and Suite In B Minor, BWV 1067. The Trumpet Concerto In D? Oh man, it’s like someone took all the sunshine in the world and poured it into a trumpet. The opening grabs you right away—it doesn’t mess around. You know how sometimes music feels polite, like it’s trying too hard to impress? Not here. This track has swagger. Maurice André plays with such clarity and warmth; every note is like a little burst of joy. There’s something about the way the harpsichord dances alongside the trumpet—it’s playful but also kinda regal, like royalty throwing a chill party. Then there’s Suite In B Minor, BWV 1067. If the first track is sunshine, this one’s more like twilight. It starts off gentle, almost hesitant, and then builds into these sweeping melodies that feel ancient yet totally alive. I kept picturing candlelit halls and people dancing in fancy wigs, which sounds ridiculous now that I type it out, but hey, that’s what it did to my brain. The interplay between the oboes, bassoon, and trumpet creates this rich tapestry of sound that feels both intimate and epic at the same time. Honestly, it gave me goosebumps. What strikes me most about this album isn’t just the technical brilliance (because duh, these guys are pros) but how human it feels. Like, yeah, it’s classical music, but it doesn’t feel stiff or distant. It’s emotional without being over-the-top. Listening to it reminds me of sitting by a window during a storm—you’re safe inside, but you’re still connected to the chaos outside. Here’s the weird thing though: as much as I love this album, part of me wishes it had been recorded today. Not because it’s outdated—far from it—but because modern tech could’ve captured even more detail. Still, maybe its slightly rough edges are what make it special. Kinda like how vinyl records have their own charm. So yeah, Trumpet Concertos might not change your life overnight, but it’ll definitely stick with you. And honestly? Sometimes sticking with you is enough.

World-renowned and influential French classical trumpeter. Best known for his recordings of Baroque works done in the 1960s and 1970s, he has released over 300 recordings to date. (born: May 21th, 1933 in Alès, France - died: February 25th, 2012 in Bayonne, France) Maurice André was born in Alés, close to the mining area of the Cevennes in 1933. He became a miner at the age of fourteen and began studying the trumpet and made very rapid progress. While still in the first year at the Conservatoire National de Musique in Paris he was awarded the Honorary First Prize for the Horn. In the following year he obtained the First Prize for the Trumpet. Maurice André later received the First Prize in the Munich International Competitions, entering upon a amusical career which took him to Germany where he was very warmly received. He travelled to England and Scandinavia and afterwards to North and South America. He has since travelled throughout the world. His early orchestral posts were with the (1953-1960), the / (1953-1960/1960-1962), and the (1962-1967). He was appointed professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris in 1967. The long series of works that Maurice André has recorded for are by 17th & 18th century composers. Modern composers also wrote works with him in mind, having been struck by the remarkable mastery of his instrument and his impeccable style and ability. He has received many Prix du Disque in France. In Germany, the Berlin Schallplattenpreis was awarded to him, a tribute to the esteem with which he is held in that country. Harry Halbreich has written: "Maurice André incarnates the trumpet! There is an indissoluble link between the rugged golden red appearance of this happy, thickset southerner who sprang from within a mine to a glorious future at lightning speed. At the age of 36 he receives invitations to play from every corner of the globe. The ease with which he plays and his legendary virtuosity are perfectly matched with his wide musical knowledge. His trumpet sings as delicately as a violin note. He has acquired a repertoire which had the great composers of the past had the honour of meeting him, would have been more extensive than it is. His ability is astonishing since he is quite capable of matching up to the acrobatc demands of the Hummel Concerto. He is just as much at ease when playing the classical repertoire as he is when confrontened with a modern work." Father of , , and . Older brother of .

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Trumpet Concertos* by Maurice André features a mix of classical heavyweights like J.S. Bach and Telemann. It came out in 1978 in the UK under EMI. One standout track is Bach’s *Suite In B Minor, BWV 1067*. Fun fact—this suite was originally written for a quirky instrument called the flauto traverso, or Baroque flute. But here, it’s reimagined with the trumpet taking center stage. The result? A bold, brassy twist on a classic piece. Definitely worth a listen if you love old-school vibes with a fresh spin.
