Mariah Carey, queen of the high notes and emotional overkill, dropped this gem under Columbia in the UK, and honestly, it’s still stuck in my brain like gum on a hot sidewalk. First up, “Hero.” Oh man, this track is peak Mariah—dramatic, sappy, and so damn earnest it almost hurts. But here’s the kicker: it WORKS. You know why I remember this one? Because it’s basically the soundtrack to every graduation, funeral, or random moment of self-doubt since the ‘90s. The lyrics are about as subtle as a brick to the face (“There's a hero if you look inside your heart”), but dang if Mariah doesn’t sell it like she invented hope itself. Her voice goes from whisper-soft to full-on diva mode so fast it feels like whiplash, and I can’t hate it. Then there’s “Dreamlover,” which is just straight-up smooth.
