Ordinary Madness EP by Modern Heads: A Minimal Techno Gem You Didn’t Know You Needed Let’s get real for a sec—when you stumble across an album like Ordinary Madness EP by Modern Heads, it’s kinda like finding that one cool thrift store jacket everyone else missed. Released in 2007 on Dozzy Records (props to Italy’s underground scene), this little slice of electronic heaven brings the vibes with its minimal techno beats and just enough edge to keep things interesting. Produced and written by Dino Sabatini and Gianluca Meloni, these guys clearly had their heads screwed on right when they made this. Now, I’ll be honest—I’m not gonna pretend every track blew my socks off. But two cuts stuck with me long after the first listen: “D’Rection” and “D’Light.” Let’s break ‘em down. First up, “D’Rection.” Man, this track is sneaky good. It starts off all chill, luring you in with these soft, pulsing synths. Then BAM—it drops into this hypnotic groove that feels like walking through fog at night. You know how sometimes music just gets you? That’s what happens here. The rhythm doesn’t hit too hard; instead, it creeps under your skin and stays there. Perfect for those late-night drives where you’re lost in thought but still wanna feel alive. Then there’s “D’Light,” which flips the script a bit. This one’s brighter, almost playful compared to “D’Rection.” There’s this shimmering melody line that dances around the beat, making it impossible not to nod along. What gets me is how layered it feels without being overwhelming. Every sound has its place, like pieces of a puzzle clicking together perfectly. If “D’Rection” is moody introspection, “D’Light” is the moment you step outside and realize the sun’s finally out again. What makes Ordinary Madness EP stand out isn’t flashy production or big-name collabs—it’s the vibe. These tracks don’t scream for attention; they whisper, pulling you in slowly until you’re hooked. And honestly, that’s refreshing as hell in a world full of overproduced bangers trying way too hard. Here’s the kicker though—this EP came out in 2007, and yet it still sounds fresh today. Like, how do they even do that? Maybe it’s because minimal techno never really goes out of style, or maybe Dino and Gianluca are just wizards who knew exactly what they were doing. Either way, hats off to them. So yeah, if you’re into electronic music that lets you zone out while keeping your feet moving, give Ordinary Madness EP a spin. Who knows? It might become your new go-to when life feels a little… ordinary. Or maybe, just maybe, it’ll remind you that madness can be kinda beautiful.
