Wavepool 2 by Plastician: A Dreamy Dive into Soundscapes You Didn’t Know You Needed Alright, so let’s talk about Wavepool 2, the 2017 gem from Plastician that somehow flew under the radar for a lot of folks. Released via Terrorhythm Recordings (shoutout to the UK scene!), this album is like stepping into a sonic kaleidoscope where hip-hop meets ambient vibes with dashes of grime, vaporwave, and chillwave sprinkled in. It’s not just music—it’s an experience. And honestly? That’s kinda what makes it stick. Now, before we dive deeper, big ups to Plastician for wearing multiple hats here—he compiled, curated, mixed, and even mastered this bad boy alongside Robin Petras. The result? A cohesive project that feels intentional yet free-flowing, like you're wandering through a dream but still know exactly where you’re headed. Let me hit you with two tracks that really stuck out for me. First up, “Ajna.” Man, this one hits different. Right off the bat, there’s this ethereal vibe—soft synths layering over each other like clouds parting on a foggy morning. But then, bam! There’s this subtle bassline creeping in, giving it weight without tipping the balance. It’s meditative, man. Like, I’ve caught myself zoning out mid-commute more than once because of it. Feels like something you’d hear while floating in space, staring at Earth from afar. Wildly calming but also kinda haunting. Love it. Then there’s “Winter Wave,” which is straight-up gorgeous. This track is all about mood—it starts slow, almost hesitant, with these delicate chimes and pads. But as it builds, it wraps around you like a warm blanket on a cold day. There are no lyrics, just pure atmosphere, but somehow it tells a story anyway. Maybe it’s nostalgia or longing or both—I dunno, but it gets me every time. Perfect for those late-night headphone sessions when the world feels too loud outside your window. What I love most about Wavepool 2 is how unapologetically experimental it is. Plastician isn’t trying to fit neatly into any box here; instead, he’s blending genres like paint on a canvas, creating something entirely his own. Tracks like “Be Peace” and “Desolate” feel minimal yet full, while cuts like “Discipline” bring back that grime edge he’s known for. It’s eclectic, sure, but never overwhelming. More like a journey you wanna take again and again. If I had to nitpick, maybe some tracks blend together a bit too much, making it hard to distinguish individual moments. But honestly? That’s part of its charm. It’s less about standout bangers and more about crafting a vibe—and damn, does Plastician nail that vibe. So yeah, Wavepool 2. Not gonna lie, it’s one of those albums that sneaks up on you. At first listen, you might think, “Cool, chill beats.” But give it time, and suddenly you’re hooked. Kinda like finding an old mixtape in your car years later and realizing it’s gold. Unexpected little treasure. Oh, and fun fact—apparently, “Cinco Años” translates to “Five Years” in Spanish. Makes me wonder if Plastician was dropping hints about how long we’d need to fully appreciate this album. Either way, good call, mate. Five stars—or should I say five waves?
