Veritas by Kaman Leung: A Wild Ride Through Electronic Experimentation (1998) Alright, buckle up because Veritas by Kaman Leung is one of those albums that feels like it was cooked up in a Swedish lab during an all-nighter fueled by coffee and existential dread. Released back in '98 under the A PMS Plan label, this experimental breakbeat masterpiece doesn’t just sit there—it grabs you by the ears and shakes you until you’re wide awake. Let’s dive into two standout tracks that’ll stick to your brain like gum on a hot sidewalk. First up, we’ve got "Selfish." This track hits hard with its glitchy beats and moody synths, making you feel like you're sneaking through a cyberpunk cityscape while being chased by something you can’t quite see. The rhythm shifts are wild enough to keep your head nodding but unpredictable enough to make you question whether you accidentally downloaded alien tech instead of music. It's chaotic yet calculated—like Kaman knew exactly how far he could push us before we screamed “uncle.” Then there’s "What Are You Looking For?", which sounds like the soundtrack to a late-night soul-searching session where you end up staring at your ceiling for hours. The layered textures here are hypnotic, almost meditative, but with just enough edge to remind you that life isn’t all incense and yoga mats. There’s a moment around the halfway mark where everything drops out except for this haunting little melody, and suddenly, you’re not sure if you’re listening to music or having an out-of-body experience. Either way, it’s unforgettable. The album’s credits read like a DIY dream team: Mixed by Kaman Leung and Timo Lundgren, sleeve art courtesy of Mariella and Sofie, who clearly had their creative juices flowing as much as anyone else involved. And let’s give props to Kaman himself for writing these bangers—he must’ve been channeling some serious cosmic vibes when he put this together. Now, here’s the kicker: Veritas came out over two decades ago, but it still feels fresh today. Maybe it’s the experimental nature of the genre, or maybe it’s because humans haven’t figured out how to evolve past loving weird, beautiful noise. Whatever the case, this record proves that sometimes the best art comes from throwing caution to the wind and letting chaos take the wheel. So next time you’re stuck in traffic or waiting for your toast to pop, throw on Veritas. Just don’t blame me if you start hearing things that aren’t there—or worse, start seeing them too.

About Kaman Leung

Kaman Leung is known for his electronic hip hop eps that became popular in the past years in the underground hip hop scene. With his debut album "Lacrimal," Leung returns to more dubby and abstract soundscapes .While Leung is probably better known for his bassdriven hip hop eps, this nine track album release finds him waist-deep in electronic dub soundscapes. But Leung adds enough new elements to the genre -- from walls of mechanical noise, to subtle melodica lines, soulful detroit synths, and funky basslines -- to keep this release deep and demanding your attention listen after listen. Kaman Leung is a Swedish Chinese producer who made abstract electronic hip-hop beats for the past decade. After a trilogy series of eps for his own Lacerated recordings imprint out in the UK and instrumental hip hop anthems with Swedish producer Gravity a few years back which was featured on DJ Krushs Code 4109, Leungs new album maybe an essential release in the recent abstract hip hop revival.
