Album Review: The Unbearable Lightness Of Being A Dickhead by Mr Floppy Alright, let’s get into this wild ride of an album. Released in 1993, The Unbearable Lightness Of Being A Dickhead is one of those records that makes you question everything—like why it exists, but also why you can’t stop listening to it. Hailing from Australia and released under the gloriously unhinged label Zombie Penis Death (yeah, you read that right), this thing is a chaotic mashup of Electronic and Rock vibes with a strong lean toward Alternative Rock. It's messy, weird, and oddly compelling. First off, kudos to the crew behind the scenes. You’ve got Matt Cotter and Vanessa Brady handling the artwork—which, honestly, looks like someone threw paint at a wall while spinning around—and producers Genghis P. Pop and James Dean keeping things semi-together in the studio. Oh, and shoutout to Paul Johnson for recording half the tracks and even co-writing a couple. Kate Bush randomly popping up as a writer on two tracks? Wild card move, but we’re here for it. Now onto the music itself. The album has sixteen tracks, which feels excessive until you realize how bonkers each song is. Let me single out two tunes that stuck with me because they’re either genius or just plain nuts—I haven’t decided yet. Track 5: “Sunflowers” Okay, so this one starts off all mellow and dreamy, like you're floating through a field of flowers or something. But then BOOM—it slaps you in the face with some gnarly guitar riffs and beats that sound like they were stolen from a bad acid trip. What really gets me is how it flips between chill and chaos every few seconds. It’s disorienting, sure, but kind of addictive too. Like when you eat chips even though you know they’re stale—you just can’t quit. Track 16: “Wuthering Heights (Reprise)” So apparently, Mr Floppy decided to cover Kate Bush’s iconic track—not once, but twice. This version is… well, it’s not exactly faithful to the original. Imagine if someone took the essence of "Wuthering Heights" and ran it through a blender with a bunch of broken keyboards and distortion pedals. That’s what this sounds like. And yet, somehow, it works? There’s a raw energy here that feels almost accidental, like they didn’t mean to make it good but nailed it anyway. Honestly, this whole album feels like a fever dream. Tracks like “Get A Dog Up Ya” and “Steak And Kidney Pie” are just straight-up ridiculous, while others like “I Feel Sick” and “Piss Off, You Witch” bring the angsty alt-rock vibes hard. Credit where it’s due, though—Mr Floppy knows how to keep you guessing. Just when you think you’ve figured out the vibe, they throw another curveball. Reflecting on this record, I gotta say—it’s not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea. Hell, it might not even be anyone’s cup of tea. But there’s something undeniably charming about its sheer audacity. It’s like that friend who shows up to a party wearing mismatched socks and a cowboy hat—they don’t care what you think, and somehow, that makes you respect them more. Final thought: If aliens ever invade Earth and ask us to explain human creativity, I’m handing them this album. They’ll either leave immediately or stick around for the sequels. Either way, job done.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: In 1993, an Australian band called Mr Floppy released an album with the wild title *The Unbearable Lightness Of Being A Dickhead*. It’s a weird mix of electronic and alternative rock. The album even features a cover of Kate Bush’s classic song *Wuthering Heights*—not once, but twice! There’s the regular version and then a reprise at the end. Oh, and get this—the tracklist includes gems like *Get A Dog Up Ya* and *Steak And Kidney Pie*. Clearly, they had a sense of humor. The whole thing was recorded by two different people for different tracks, which might explain why it feels so all over the place. Gotta respect the chaos though!

For any man to use a falsetto singing octave to cover a woman's vocals on a popular song is a brave endeavour imo.
