Cherry Cherry by Neil Diamond: A Timeless Slice of Pop/Rock Gold (1966) Neil Diamond’s Cherry Cherry isn’t just an album—it’s a vibe, a mood, and occasionally, a head-scratcher. Released in 1966, this record is like that one friend who shows up to every party with something different but always leaves you humming their tunes for days. It’s got garage rock grit, pop-rock polish, balladry feels, and even some folk-rock charm. And yeah, it’s all over the map stylistically—but hey, so was the ‘60s. Now, let’s talk tracks because not everything here hits the same way. First up, we’ve got the title track, “Cherry Cherry.” This song slaps harder than your grandma’s apple pie. From the opening drumbeat to Diamond’s raspy vocals, it’s impossible not to bop along. The lyrics are simple enough—they’re basically about crushing on someone named Cherry—but there’s a swagger in the delivery that makes it stick. Honestly, if this track doesn’t get stuck in your brain after hearing it once, check your pulse. You might be dead. Then there’s “I’m A Believer,” which—you guessed it—became a MONSTER hit when The Monkees covered it. But let me tell ya, Diamond’s original version has its own raw magic. His voice cracks ever-so-slightly in places, giving it a lived-in authenticity that feels more personal than polished. Sure, The Monkees made it bigger, brighter, and shinier, but Diamond’s take reminds you where it all started. Plus, who can resist those handclaps? Not me, apparently. The production credits go to Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, two legends who knew how to craft catchy-as-hell melodies without overthinking things. As for Neil himself? Dude wrote these songs like he was pouring his soul onto paper napkins at diners. Imperfect? Maybe. Relatable? Absolutely. What’s wild is how universal this album became. Released across countries from Angola to Australia, Spain to New Zealand, it proves great music transcends borders faster than bad news spreads on Twitter. Labels like Bang Records, London Records, and Ariola helped push it globally, ensuring everyone got a taste of Neil’s magic. But here’s the kicker: listening to Cherry Cherry now feels like flipping through a time capsule filled with both nostalgia and weirdness. Like, why does “Red Red Wine” sound so chill yet kinda sad at the same time? Why does “Hanky Panky” feel dirtier than it actually is? And why do I keep mishearing “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” as “Girl, You’re A Weird One”? In the end, Cherry Cherry isn’t perfect—but maybe that’s why it works. It’s messy, heartfelt, and unapologetically human, much like Neil Diamond himself. So grab a copy, crank up the volume, and let yourself fall into this gloriously imperfect slice of ‘60s goodness. Just don’t blame me if “Cherry Cherry” loops in your head for weeks. Trust me, it happens. P.S. If anyone knows what happened to Cherry, hit me up. I need answers.

Many of the comments on this thread are idolizing Neil Diamond.
Idols are a big no no, ladies and gents.
Essentially if you take an idol you are attempting to exalt and emulate another human being.
This is dangerous because you should only idolize something above you and a human being is your equal.
Jesus Christ can be idolized, justly. But anyone or anything else is like playing with fire.

Sadly we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes until we conquer them by way of realization.

It’s a catchy song, well written and performed.. enjoy it.. but leave it at that.
Godspeed to all of you.

It may only be 3 cords but it had multiple ghost notes and the bridge has picking. I am loving and learning on the Baritone Ukulele. I am struggling.

ture story. Neil Diamond dropped off his demo for Cherry, Cherry to WLS in Chicago. Clark Webber got it on the air. People kept on calling in for it to be replayed and replayed. Unbeknownst to Diamond, he had dropped off the demo and went back to sweeping the stoop at a nearby store. Clark Webber of WLS was sent to find himand fortunately found Neil Diamond. Thus a musical legend was born. On it's own merits Cherry, Cherry is a GREAT song and would have stood as a One Hit Wonder. But this backstory is a great one.
