Crimes Of Passion III: A Retro Gem That Still Hits Hard Alright, let’s talk about Crimes Of Passion III by Neon. Released in 1988 outta Italy, this album is like that forgotten VHS tape you find at a garage sale and realize it’s secretly awesome. It’s got this wild mix of Electronic vibes with some Rock edge, leaning into New Wave and Goth Rock styles. If you’re into moody synths, crunchy guitars, and vocals dripping with attitude, you’ll dig this one. First off, props to the crew behind it—Marcello Michelotti on vocals AND producing duties? Dude clearly didn’t sleep much during production. Oh, and shoutout to Andrea Mancini on bass and Leo Martera on drums for keeping things tight. The whole thing was mixed by Ben Frassinelli, Marco Casaglia, and Marzio Benelli, which sounds like the lineup for an indie band itself. Now, onto the tracks. I gotta call out “Christ In Spotlights” because holy crap, what a vibe. This track kicks off the album with this eerie but danceable energy. The synth work feels like walking through a foggy midnight street while something ominous follows you. But instead of being scared, you kinda wanna strut your stuff. It sticks in your head—not just because of the title either. There’s this weird tension between the melody and Marcello’s voice that makes it feel both sacred and totally unhinged. Like… imagine if a cathedral had a rave night. Yeah, that. Another standout has to be “Sick (Full Time Loser)”. Honestly, who isn’t a full-time loser sometimes? This track nails that angsty, “I’m over everything” mood perfectly. The guitar riff hits hard enough to make you wanna punch the air, but then those icy synaves sneak in to remind you it’s okay to feel lost. Plus, the lyrics are sharp without trying too hard, which is always refreshing. You can tell Neon poured their soul into this one—it’s raw and real, man. Oh, and how could I forget “Dance Me..”? It’s like they knew exactly when to turn up the drama. This song closes the album with this hypnotic groove that just pulls you in. By the end, you're either dancing alone in your room or staring blankly into space wondering what life is all about. Both options are valid. What really gets me thinking though is how ahead of its time this record feels. Sure, it came out in '88, but listening now, it still slaps. Maybe it’s the mix of genres or the fact that everyone involved seemed to pour heart and guts into every second. Or maybe it’s just proof that good music doesn’t age—it evolves. Anyway, wrapping this up... Here’s the deal: Crimes Of Passion III might not have been mainstream back then, but it deserves another look today. And honestly? Listening to it feels like rediscovering an old friend you forgot you loved. Except this friend wears leather jackets and listens to Joy Division on repeat. So yeah, check it out—and hey, maybe don’t tell anyone where you heard about it first. Let’s keep it our little secret.
