Album Review: "Who You Be" by Outsidaz Released in 2001, Who You Be by Outsidaz is a raw and gritty entry into the hardcore hip-hop genre. With its unapologetic energy and sharp lyricism, this album carves out a niche that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly untamed. Backed by RuffLife Records in the US and Rufflife UK Ltd. in France, it’s got that transatlantic vibe—gritty American roots with a touch of European flair. The standout feature of Who You Be lies in its relentless creativity, particularly through remixes and alternate versions of the titular track. While some might find the sheer number of iterations overwhelming, each version brings something new to the table. Two tracks, however, stick out like graffiti on a pristine wall: the Anthony Depula Remix and the Rugged Ness Remix. The Anthony Depula Remix slaps hard right from the intro—a bassline so thick you could spread it on toast. It flips the original beat into something darker, almost cinematic. The way Outsidaz rides this track feels effortless yet calculated, as if they’re daring you to keep up.
