Album Review: Estoy Celoso Corazon Contento by Palito Ortega Con Toscano y Orquesta Alright, let’s dive into this little gem from the Latin pop vaults: Estoy Celoso Corazon Contento. It’s got that old-school RCA Victor charm, with Palito Ortega crooning his heart out alongside Toscano y Orquesta doing their orchestral thing. The album hails from El Salvador, and if you’re into vintage vocal vibes with a touch of drama, this one might just tickle your eardrums. First off, let’s talk tracks. The title track, "Estoy Celoso," is an earworm wrapped in jealousy (and maybe a dash of melodrama). Palito’s voice here feels like he’s spilling all his relationship woes at a late-night café—super relatable if you’ve ever been in that “why is she talking to him?” headspace. What sticks with me? The way the strings swell right as he hits the chorus—it’s like the orchestra is rolling its eyes but also kinda rooting for him. You don’t hear stuff like this anymore; it’s refreshingly raw and unfiltered, even if it’s polished to a shine. Then there’s "Corazon Contento." This one flips the mood completely, trading envy for pure joy. Palito sounds like he just won the lottery or found out tacos are good for you (which they totally are). The rhythm bounces along so cheerfully, it’s impossible not to hum along—even if you only catch every third word. There’s something about how the horns chime in that makes me want to grab a partner and twirl around the living room. Not that I’d admit to doing that, but hey, no judgment here. What strikes me most about this album is how Palito wears his emotions on his sleeve. He wrote these songs himself, and you can tell—they’re personal, heartfelt, and occasionally over-the-top in the best way possible. Toscano y Orquesta bring the perfect backdrop, making sure the spotlight stays firmly on those vocals without stealing the show. Now, here’s the kicker: Listening to this record feels like stepping into another era, where music wasn’t trying to reinvent the wheel—it was just trying to make you feel something. And honestly? That’s rare these days. So next time you’re scrolling through streaming services looking for something different, give Estoy Celoso Corazon Contento a spin. Just don’t blame me if you start serenading your cat. Oh, and fun fact: Did you know Palito Ortega later became a legit movie star? Talk about a glow-up!

About Palito Ortega Con Toscano y Orquesta

Ramón Bautista Ortega (b. 1942) is an Argentine singer. producer, businessman, politician, and actor, better known as Palito Ortega. Ortega reached international fame, particularly in Latin America and Spain, during the 1960s. Ortega became friends with members of a famous group named "Carlinhos y su Banda". He learned to play drums during rehearsals and, eventually, he joined the group. A period of wild success across South America followed for the band, with Ortega being one of their most popular members. Ortega left the group to follow a solo career, confident that the recognition the group had given him would guarantee him success as a solo artist. His first solo album, "La Edad del Amor" ("The Age of Love"), was recorded under the artistic name of Nery Nelson. This album, as well as the next one ("Yo no Quiero," translated to "I Don't Want To"), were not hits. Both albums were recorded in Mendoza with low budgets and no recording company to back them up. Ortega also used the artistic nickname of Tony Varano for some of his live shows at the time, as he became a member of Chilean band "Los Lyons" when lead singer Peter Rock, left the band. His interests, however, remained in being a successful solo singer, and he left The Lyons within months of joining that band. In 1962, he signed a contract with RCA Records, and began recording immediately. His television appearances on the popular TV show "El Club del Clan" led to a career in cinema. Ortega recorded 27 albums, and starred in 26 films at the time, becoming a teen idol as a consequence. He acted and sang in those films, and shared the big screen with many of Argentina's most important actors and actresses of the time. Ortega dedicated his time to politics during the 90s, being elected governor of his province, Tucumán in 1991. He also served as senator from 1995 up to 2000. Ortega received a "Grammy" award in 2013.
