Qntal II: A Sonic Journey Through Time and Texture Alright, let’s talk about Qntal II. Released in 1995 by the German-US band Qntal, this album is like a weird but beautiful mashup of medieval vibes and industrial beats. If you’re into Goth Rock, Electro, or even Modern Classical, this one’s gonna grab your attention. It’s not perfect, but it’s got that strange charm that sticks with you. The genres listed for this thing are all over the place—Electronic, Pop/Rock, Folk, World & Country, Alternative, Goth Rock—and honestly? That chaos works. The styles range from Industrial Dance to Alternative/Indie Rock, so yeah, they weren’t exactly playing it safe here. But hey, who wants safe when you can have something that feels like stepping into a dark cathedral with strobe lights? Let’s zoom in on two tracks that really stood out to me: “Palestinalied” and “Frühling.” First up, “Palestinalied.” This track hits hard because of its haunting vocals by Sigrid Hausen. Her voice floats above these brooding electronic layers like mist over a graveyard at dawn. And then there’s Michael Popp’s fiddle weaving through the mix—it adds this raw, almost primal energy that makes you feel like you’ve been transported back centuries. You don’t need to understand the lyrics (which are traditional) to get swept away by the emotion. Honestly, I found myself humming parts of it days later without even realizing it. Then there’s “Frühling,” which is just… different. It starts off super mellow, almost dreamy, with these lush synth pads and gentle melodies. But as it builds, it gets more intense, layering in percussion and distorted textures until it feels like spring bursting into full bloom right in your ears. It’s kinda ironic how a song called “Spring” ends up being so moody, but that contrast is what makes it memorable. Plus, Ernst Horn’s production chops shine here—he knows how to balance beauty and grit perfectly. One thing I gotta mention is the artwork by Carl D. Erling. It fits the vibe of the music perfectly: gothic yet elegant, mysterious but inviting. Same goes for Stefan Bock’s mastering job—he kept everything crisp without losing the raw edge. Now, here’s the kicker: listening to Qntal II feels like eavesdropping on a secret conversation between the past and the future. Like, imagine monks hanging out in a cyberpunk club—that’s the vibe. Sure, some tracks drag a bit, and not every experiment lands perfectly, but isn’t that part of the fun? So yeah, if you’re looking for an album that defies easy categorization and leaves you thinking, “What did I just listen to?”—this might be your jam. Or maybe not. Either way, give it a shot. Just don’t blame me if you end up dreaming about medieval robots dancing under neon rain.

Nu allerst lebe ich mir werde,
Siehtt man sündic ouge siht
Daz reine lant und ouch die erde
Den man so vil Ehren giht.
Mirst geschehen des ich ie bat,
Ich bin komen an die stat
Da got mennischlichen trat.

Schoeniu lant riech unde heere,
Swaz ich der noch han gesehen,
So bist duz ir aller Ere:
Waz ist wunders hie geschehen!
Daz ein magt ein kint gebar
Here aber aller engel schar,
Waz daz niht ein wunder gar?

Hie liez er sich reine toufen,
Daz der mensche reine sah.
Dsi liez er sich härre verkoufen,
Daz wir eigen wurden fri.
Anders waeren wir verlorn:

Wol dir, sper, kriuz unde dorn!
We dir, heiden! deist dir zorn.

Hinnen fuor der sun zer helle
Von dem grabe, da er inne lac.
Des was ie der vater geselle
Und der geist, den niemen mac
Sunder scheiden: ist al ein,
Sleht und ebener danne ein zein,
Als er Abrahame erschein.

In diz lant hat er gesprochen

Da diu witwe wirt gerochen

Und der arme den gewalt,
