Exploring the Untitled Depths: Radial Patrik Skoog Chain’s 2015 Techno Gem If you’re into techno that feels like it was brewed in some shadowy Stockholm basement, Radial Patrik Skoog Chain’s Untitled might just be your next obsession. Released under the Swedish label Sample + Hold back in 2015, this album doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel—but man, does it spin that sucker with finesse. It’s raw, relentless, and oddly hypnotic, like staring at a strobe light until everything starts making sense. Let’s zoom in on two tracks that stuck with me like gum on a shoe: "Exploded View" and "Sunstorm." “Exploded View” kicks things off with this jittery rhythm that sneaks up on you. Imagine if a broken printer had a soul—it’s chaotic but somehow soothing. The layers build slowly, adding these weird little glitches here and there, like someone whispering secrets through static. By the time the beat fully locks in, you’re already hooked, nodding along like an idiot who forgot they were supposed to hate electronic music. This track isn’t about big drops or flashy moments; it’s more like a slow burn that leaves you craving another listen. Then there’s “Sunstorm,” which flips the vibe entirely. Where “Exploded View” feels claustrophobic and tight, this one opens wide, all shimmering synths and airy pads. It sounds exactly how I imagine running across a desert at sunset would feel—equal parts freedom and exhaustion. There’s something almost cinematic about it, like it could soundtrack a scene where the hero realizes they’ve been chasing the wrong dream their whole life. (Or maybe that’s just me projecting too hard.) Either way, it sticks because it’s got heart beneath all those pulsing beats. The other tracks—“Overdub” and “Slip”—are solid enough, though they don’t hit quite as hard. They keep the energy alive without overstaying their welcome, which is cool. But honestly? It’s those first two songs that make this album worth remembering. They remind me why I fell for techno in the first place: it’s not always about perfection. Sometimes it’s about finding beauty in the mess. So yeah, Untitled isn’t gonna change your life or anything dramatic like that. But it’s one of those albums that worms its way into your brain when you least expect it. Like, I’ll randomly hear “Exploded View” playing in my head while waiting for coffee or zoning out on public transport. And honestly, isn’t that what good music should do? Be there when you need it most—even if it’s just background noise for your existential crises? Also, fun fact: every time I type “Radial Patrik Skoog Chain,” autocorrect tries to turn it into “Radial Parking Lot.” Maybe that says more about modern technology than it does about the album, but hey, food for thought.

About Radial Patrik Skoog Chain

Radial is a techno project from The Netherlands. Formed in 2006 as a duo of Jeroen Liebregts and Laurens van der Starre. Laurens van der Starre left in 2009, and since that time Radial became a solo project of Jeroen Liebregts. Jeroen has been dj'ing since around '98 and picked up music production soon after. Since 2002 Jeroen teamed up with Bas Mooy and started the label Audio Assault as a platform for their own work and that of artists whose work they admire. About a year later sublabel Arms was born. Today, 11 years later, the main label is still running strong with over 40 vinyl releases and counting. Radial started out as a collaboration with Laurens van der Starre, but since 2009 it is Liebregts' solo project. Always driven to dive deeper Jeroen started a 4-year studies of Sonology at the Conservatory in The Hague, which he finished in 2006. This study deals with electronic music composition, computer programming, analog synthesis and electronic instrument design among other things. This is probably what kickstarted his interest to use self designed instruments in his music. The constant quest for new technological approaches is an imported factor that helped shape his sound. His current tendency toward analog hardware based methods also resulted in his involvement in the design and development of the Synton Fenix modular synthesizer. Over the years the music of Jeroen Liebregts has found it's way to many places using different aliases. There have been releases of original tracks and remixes on labels such as Token, Perc-Trax, Mote-Evolver, Numb, Drumcode, Planet Rhythm, Dole-Gate and most recently Mord.
