Review by Timo Saloranta

The Real Heroes – “The Real Heroes” (2001) Alright, let’s get into it. The Real Heroes by The Real Heroes is one of those albums that doesn’t try to kiss your ass but somehow grabs you by the throat anyway. Released in 2001 under Rec Center Records, this US-born gem straddles Pop/Rock and straight-up Rock with a side of Alternative Rock and Pop Rock swagger. It’s not perfect, but damn if it doesn’t make you feel something raw. First off, yeah, they repeat two tracks—"Fission or Fusion" and "Kiss the Mechanic"—which feels like either a fuck-up or some kinda statement I’m too lazy to decode. Whatever. Doesn’t matter when the songs slap hard enough to forgive sloppy sequencing. Speaking of slapping hard… Let’s talk about “NY Bitch.” Oh man, this track hits different. It’s got this biting energy, like someone took their frustrations out on NYC itself and turned it into three minutes of pure rebellion. The lyrics are sharp, almost mean-spirited—but isn’t that what makes it stick? When I hear this song, I picture walking through Times Square at midnight, pissed off at everyone around me while secretly loving the chaos. That bassline just digs its claws into you and won’t let go. You can practically smell the stale pretzels and cigarette smoke. Then there’s “Paper Thin,” which is honestly the opposite vibe but just as unforgettable. This one sneaks up on you with its softer edges before punching you in the gut emotionally. The vocals have this cracked vulnerability that feels real—not overproduced or fake-deep like half the crap coming out these days. There’s something haunting about how simple it all is: no bells, no whistles, just honest-to-god storytelling. If “NY Bitch” is the chaotic city life, “Paper Thin” is sitting alone in your room after a bad day, staring at the wall. Both vibes work weirdly well together. But hey, let’s keep it real for a second—this album ain’t perfect. Some tracks blur together, and yeah, repeating two songs? Come on, guys. Did y’all run out of ideas or just forget what you already recorded? Still, even with those flaws, it’s got guts. It doesn’t sound like they were trying to chase trends; it sounds like they made exactly the record they wanted to make. And honestly? That counts for a lot more than most bands realize. So here’s the kicker: listening to The Real Heroes today feels kinda like finding an old mixtape in the bottom of a junk drawer. It’s messy, uneven, maybe a little dusty—but once you hit play, you remember why you kept it around. Maybe that’s the point. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it because I’ve had too much coffee. Either way, crank this sucker loud and let it remind you what rock music used to sound like before algorithms started writing songs.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: The album *The Real Heroes* by The Real Heroes is like a time capsule from 2001. It blends Alternative Rock and Pop Rock, giving off serious early 2000s vibes. One cool thing? The track "Fission or Fusion" appears twice on the album. Maybe it’s a nod to its importance or just a quirky oversight. Either way, it’s a little detail that makes the album uniquely theirs. Plus, with songs like "NY Bitch" and "Kiss the Mechanic," you can tell they weren’t afraid to mix bold themes with catchy rock beats.
