About Sofia Gubaidulina Natalia Korneva, Viktor Lutsiuk, Fedor Mozhaev, Genady Bezzubenkov, St Petersburger Kammerchor, Chor Und Orchester Des MariinskyTheaters St Petersburg, Valery Gergiev
Sofia Asgatovna Gubaidulina is a Soviet and Russian composer who has been living in Germany since 1991.
Author of more than a hundred symphonic works, compositions for soloists, choir and orchestra, instrumental ensembles, music for theater, cinema and cartoons.
Sofia Gubaidulina was born in Chistopol in the Tatar Republic of the Soviet Union in October 24, 1931.
After instruction in piano and composition at the Kazan Conservatory, she studied composition with at the , pursuing graduate studies there under . Until 1992, she lived in Moscow. Since then, she has made her primary residence in Germany, outside Hamburg. Gubaidulina's compositional interests have been stimulated by the tactile exploration and improvisation with rare Russian, Caucasian, and Asian folk and ritual instruments collected by the "Astreia" ensemble, of which she was a co-founder, by the rapid absorption and personalization of contemporary Western musical techniques (a characteristic, too, of other Soviet composers of the post-Stalin generation including and ), and by a deep-rooted belief in the mystical properties of music. Her uncompromising dedication to a singular vision did not endear her to the Soviet musical establishment, but her music was championed in Russia by a number of devoted performers including , , , and . The determined advocacy of , dedicatee of Gubaidulina's masterly violin concerto, Offertorium , helped bring the composer to international attention in the early 1980s. Gubaidulina is the author of symphonic and choral works, two cello concerti, a viola concerto, four string quartets, a string trio, works for percussion ensemble, and many works for nonstandard instruments and distinctive combinations of instruments. Her scores frequently explore unconventional techniques of sound production.
In 2011, with the personal patronage and participation of Sofia Gubaidulina in Kazan, the annual festival of contemporary music named after her "Concordia" was founded by the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan / , in which famous Russian and foreign composers and performers perform. The artistic director of the festival is Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Sladkovsky / .

Tabarnac! This is an amazing piece of music. The singers are singing as if they were present at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Such amazing voices and such a collaborative effort by all the musicians. Truly stunning.
Istinno! Istinno! Govoryu tebye!
Real Music, real Art.
This is so haunting and terrifying, yet very sublime and amazing. It's like as Jesus is suffering and coming to his death, a wicked world full of evil and diseases is slowly unfolding and coming to it's end. The Golgota sequence is one of the most eerie, heavy and astonishing things I've ever heard. The chorus shouting and whispering "Khristos" all way through gave chills to my spine. Glórias a Deus e a seu Filho que está Vivo!
Благодарю
¡Qué obra tan bella e intensa!!
From where I could find the english translation of the text? Thank you!
Is it fair that I compare this masterpiece to Beethoven's 9th symphony? This work is truly amazing!! Wonderful and profound music...
29:00 Svjat Gaspod Bog. So good =)
I am not mature enough for all works of Gubaildulina and cannot enjoy all of them but this belongs to a series of works of her which I listen repeatedly. It is a highly spiritual music.
Not caught in the 12-tone technique, a great song so a compelling melody and chords can also be convinced. Since the Russian but do not know exactly the progress, if the bus would be gospel historian? And tenor is Christ? Melody of the bus (gospel historian?) Is also as sutra chanting, it was also felt to resemble the melody of the Shostakovich Symphony No. 14 bus singer.
I love this woman and her music, everything I've heard from her so far has been thourally enjoyable, moving and interesting. From the interviews I've seen and read, she's also a beautiful person who has had her struggles, as many composers from that generation. But I'm very thankful to have her music to listen to!!
Amazing masterpiece which you would probably not listen to very often - like Bach's Passions. By the same token, it sheds a new light on Sofia Gubaidulina's other works. Although I am fairly familiar with her compositions, I will need to listen again to the "Sieben Wörte" (for Cello and Bayan: not for the faint-hearted) and to the "Meditation über einen Choral von Bach". If you enjoyed this Passion and if you do not know Gubaidulina's Chaconne for piano, I suggest that you listen to it (it is much easier music than the Passion): there are many good interpretations available on YouTube... Enjoy !
sublime, but how many people got the patience to listen to this?
1:19:50 was that intentional?
music starts at 5:10
masterpiece!
Thank You.
It's curious how a very catholic lady can produce such wicked music.
