Bless The Ladies by Soul Combo: A Groovy Italian Gem You Can’t Miss Alright, let’s talk about Bless The Ladies by Soul Combo. Released in 2022 under Lademoto Records, this album is a funky soul train straight outta Italy. With genres like Funk, Soul, and Pop, it’s got that classic Rhythm & Blues vibe mixed with smooth modern touches. And honestly? It works. The team behind this project—especially Al Castellana and Daniele "Speed" Dibiaggio—is clearly vibing hard together. They wrote, arranged, produced, and even played on most of the tracks, which gives the whole thing a cohesive feel. Like, you can tell these guys were in the studio just jamming their hearts out. Now, onto some standout tunes because ain’t nobody got time to review every track (there’s like… 25 of ‘em). First up, “Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You).” This one hits different. The groove is tight, thanks to Alessandro "Leo" Leonzini laying down those basslines so smooth you’d think they were buttered. Then there’s Al Castellana’s vocals—he’s not trying too hard, but he still nails that raw emotional punch. It’s the kinda song that makes you wanna snap your fingers while reminiscing about all the times someone didn’t show up when you really needed ‘em. Oof. Another banger is “Smile At Me.” I mean, come on—the flute solo from Tommaso Bisiak alone deserves an award. It’s playful yet kinda mysterious, like walking through a foggy street at night but feeling oddly happy about it. Plus, AX adds some extra spice with her feature—it’s short but leaves a mark. There’s also this cool back-and-forth between the keys and saxophone that feels like they’re having their own little conversation. Honestly, it’s tracks like these that remind me why live instrumentation will always slap harder than anything programmed. Oh, and how could I forget “They Say I’m Different”? That horn section slaps so hard it might as well be illegal. Gabriele "Gabo" Pribetti on tenor sax brings the heat, and the rhythm section keeps things tight enough to make you forget you’re sitting in traffic or whatever boring situation you’re stuck in. Props to Marco Vattovani for keeping the drums crisp and clean without overdoing it. What strikes me most about Bless The Ladies is how personal it feels. Even though it’s polished (shoutout to Nicola Ardessi for mastering), it doesn’t lose its soul. You can hear the effort in every note, every arrangement, every little detail. And yeah, maybe it’s a bit long—like, do we really need five versions of certain songs? But hey, who am I to judge? Sometimes more is more. Here’s the random thought that popped into my head after listening: If this album were a person, it’d probably be that chill friend who shows up late to the party but immediately lights up the room with their energy. You know, the one who brings homemade snacks instead of store-bought ones. Just saying. So yeah, if you’re into funky beats, heartfelt lyrics, and musicianship that’ll make your jaw drop, check out Bless The Ladies. It’s proof that good music doesn’t care about borders—it comes straight from the heart.
