Atomic Roar - Never Human Again

Never Human Again by Atomic Roar: A Thrash-Punk-Black Metal Mashup That’ll Rattle Your Skull So, here’s the deal. If you’re into music that feels like a chainsaw ripping through your eardrums while also making you wanna headbang until your neck snaps, Never Human Again by Atomic Roar is your jam. Released in 2017 via labels like Bestial Invasion Records and Urubuz Records (yeah, these guys know how to pick ‘em), this album is a wild ride across thrash, punk, and black metal territories. It’s messy, loud, and unapologetically raw—just how it should be. First off, let’s talk about “Winds of Wasteland.” This track hits you like a freight train on steroids. The opening riff grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. There’s something about the way the guitars screech and grind against each other—it’s chaotic but oddly hypnotic. And when the vocals kick in? Holy crap, it’s like someone screaming into a void full of broken glass. You remember this one because it’s relentless. By the time it loops back around for the second or third time (yep, they repeat tracks—don’t ask me why, maybe they just loved themselves too much), you’re either exhausted or completely hooked. I was the latter. Then there’s “Scent of Fear,” which, honestly, sounds exactly like its title. Imagine running from some unseen horror in a post-apocalyptic wasteland—that’s the vibe. The drumming here is absolutely nuts, all double-bass madness and snare cracks that sound like gunshots. What sticks with me most is how the song builds tension without ever fully releasing it. It keeps you on edge, like waiting for a monster to jump out from behind a corner. Spoiler alert: the monster never shows up, but damn does it feel real. The rest of the album follows suit—tracks like “Exiled Into The Graves” and “Dreaming In An Iron Shelter” deliver more of that gritty punch, blending UK-Greece influences into something uniquely nasty. But hey, credit where it’s due: repeating songs like “Ghost City” and “Hail To The Bomb” felt kinda lazy. Like, we got it the first time, folks. What really struck me about Never Human Again wasn’t just the music itself—it was the attitude. Atomic Roar isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel; they’re smashing it to pieces and laughing while doing it. Sure, it’s not perfect, and yeah, sometimes it feels like they got carried away with their own noise. But isn’t that what makes albums like this so fun? Here’s the kicker though—I listened to this album during a power outage, candles flickering, shadows dancing on my walls. And lemme tell ya, it made every single moment hit harder. Maybe that’s the secret sauce: listen to Never Human Again when life already feels like chaos. Somehow, it makes everything… make sense. Or at least as much sense as thrash-punk-black metal can.
