Dave Matthews Band’s Ants Marching 4 Track EP: A Little Slice of 1995 Magic Alright, let’s talk about the Ants Marching 4 Track EP by Dave Matthews Band. Released in 1995 under RCA and BMG Australia Limited, this little gem is a snapshot of the band’s raw energy and knack for blending rock with something just… different. It’s not perfect, but it’s got soul, man. And hey, sometimes that’s all you need. First off, I gotta say, the live version of “Ants Marching” sticks with me like gum on a shoe. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to catch DMB live, you know they bring this electric vibe to their shows that recordings just can’t fully capture. But somehow, this live cut gets close. Carter Beauford’s drumming? Insane. The guy doesn’t just play drums—he talks through them. And Stefan Lessard’s bassline? Sticky as honey. You can almost feel the crowd swaying along with every note. What makes this version unforgettable is how loose it feels—like the band’s just vibing together, no pressure, no pretense. That’s rare in a live track, especially from the mid-’90s when everything had to be so polished. Then there’s “What Would You Say,” which is just straight-up fun. With its funky groove and Leroi Moore’s sax lines weaving in and out, it’s impossible not to bob your head. The whole thing has this playful energy, like Dave and the crew are poking fun at themselves while still delivering something seriously catchy. Plus, Boyd Tinsley’s violin solo? Chef’s kiss. It’s unexpected, sure, but that’s kind of the point—it keeps you listening, keeps you guessing. The production credits tell part of the story here. Steve Lillywhite producing most tracks gives it that big, open sound he’s known for (shoutout to U2 fans). Meanwhile, Tom Lord-Alge mixing things up adds that extra layer of punch. Oh, and props to Bruce Flohr and Peter Robinson for their A&R work—they clearly knew they had something special on their hands. Here’s the thing: this EP isn’t groundbreaking or revolutionary. It’s short, sweet, and maybe even a bit rough around the edges. But that’s why I love it. It reminds me of those random mixtapes people used to make back in the day—just a few songs thrown together because they felt right, not because they were trying to change the world. And honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what music should be—a moment in time, unpolished and real. Listening to this EP feels like flipping through an old photo album. Sure, the pictures might be faded, but the memories? Crystal clear. So yeah, give this one a spin if you’re into ‘90s alt-rock vibes or just wanna hear some killer musicians jamming out without overthinking it. Just don’t blame me if you find yourself humming “Ants Marching” for days afterward.

The soundtrack for 90's drudgery and wageslavery. Random meandering nonsensical lyrics coupled via psuedo-country twang and a hint of smooth jazz saxophone. Having to listen to this autistic shit non-stop at school, work, the mall, etc... was the real eason for the high rate of suicides in the 90's.
