About The Tony Williams Lifetime

Tony Williams formed Lifetime after leaving the Group in 1969, around the time was finished. The formative trio included guitarist (who turned down Davis' offer to join his group since he felt he would more likely be able to play his own compositions with Williams) and Hammond organ innovator . Ex-Cream bass player Jack Bruce joined just after the first album was recorded for live dates and the second album, after which McLaughlin left in order to pursue his own career and Bruce left for other projects including his own career. Larry Young remained for the third album (in 1971), which featured a much larger ensemble. For the fourth Lifetime album the personnel had changed completely as the direction shifted further toward something less radical.
The original formation recorded two albums ( and ) and a single called - a McLaughlin composition that was also included to huge success in his second Mahavishnu Orchestra album. Lifetime's sound was on the very cutting edge of fusion for many listeners. Loads of distortion, unconventional lyrics and erratic drumming were the trademarks of this remarkable project.

Who's the ONE "THUMBS DOWN?" "Obviously, you don't get it!"
Sweet
There's these 5 notes from what would become "Rawalpindi Blues" by Carla Bley on Escalator Over the Hill, featuring JM playing a terrific guitar solo..
Tonny voice is Quite closed to Bono!!!?????
HEAVY song, feels extremely psychedelic
impresionante disco seminal que demuestra los origenes de John McLaughlin y por ende es parte de los origenes mismos del jazz rock
saw these guys at penn st. in '69..imho the 3 best players on their instruments who ever lived. still can't believe that show.
According to John McLaughlin, this song (Vashkar) was played on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (guest host: Flip Wilson) in 1970. McLaughlin left Lifetime after two albums due to his being dismayed at Monte Kay and Jack Lewis (mentioned as "the management") who gave Flip Wilson more attention, with "The Flip Wilson Show" than Tony Williams' group itself who ended up playing at small sized venues if I'm not mistaken.
