Time Capsule Collection Volume 1: A Chaotic Love Letter to '90s Electronic Music Alright, buckle up, because Time Capsule Collection Volume 1 is like sticking your hand into a box of glittery, neon chaos and pulling out something unexpectedly beautiful. Released in 1995 by the UK label Chimichality, this album feels less like a cohesive project and more like someone raided every underground rave, chillout room, and experimental studio session they could find. It’s messy, wild, and kinda genius. The genre-spanning madness here covers everything from Acid to Ambient, Breakbeat to Hardcore, Techno to Dub—and that’s just scratching the surface. With tracks by various artists, it’s not so much an album as it is a snapshot of what electronic music was doing when nobody was really looking. And honestly? That makes it all the more special. Let’s zoom in on two standout tracks that’ll stick with you long after the last beat fades: First up, "Only Those Who Attempt The Impossible Will Achieve The Absurd." Yeah, yeah, I know—the title sounds like some motivational poster you’d see at a corporate office, but trust me, this track lives up to its lofty name. It starts off slow, almost teasing you with these eerie pads that creep around like shadows in an empty warehouse. Then BAM—it slams into this relentless breakbeat rhythm that grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you awake. By the time the distorted bassline kicks in, you’re fully submerged in its hypnotic insanity. You can practically smell the sweat dripping off the walls of whatever illegal rave this would’ve been blasting through back in ‘95. Every time I hear it, I’m reminded why Breakbeat became such a cult favorite—it’s raw, unpredictable, and utterly addictive. Then there’s "Deep Sea," which flips the vibe entirely. If “Absurd” is the chaotic heart-pounding rave banger, “Deep Sea” is the dreamy comedown you didn’t know you needed. Imagine floating weightlessly underwater while ghostly synths swirl around you like bioluminescent jellyfish. There’s no rush, no urgency—just pure ambient bliss. This one lingers in your mind for days afterward, like a half-remembered dream you wish you could revisit. Honestly, if aliens ever landed on Earth, I’d play them this track first to prove we’re worth keeping around. What strikes me about Time Capsule Collection Volume 1 isn’t just how diverse it is, but how unapologetically itself it feels. Nothing here screams “commercial hit,” and yet every track has personality oozing out of its circuits. Tracks like "Industrial Waste" slap harder than they have any right to, while "Secret Fragrance" wraps you in this cozy blanket of sound that feels like being hugged by robots. (Weird flex, but okay.) But here’s the kicker—the whole thing feels alive. Like, really alive. Listening to it now, nearly three decades later, it still crackles with energy. Maybe it’s the grittiness of the production or the sheer audacity of throwing twenty-something wildly different songs onto one disc, but damn if it doesn’t feel like stepping into a time machine. So yeah, if you’re hunting for polished perfection, this ain’t it. But if you want to dive headfirst into the messy, glorious melting pot of ‘90s electronica, then grab yourself a copy of Time Capsule Collection Volume 1. Just don’t blame me if you end up losing hours zoning out to its weird wonders. Oh, and fun fact: apparently, the label Chimichality folded shortly after releasing this gem. Makes sense though, right? Something this gloriously unhinged probably scared investors away. Too bad—they were onto something magical.

I started listening hardcore techno music when I was 13 - today, I'm 38.
THIS one is for sure the most intense, unforgiving, near-death-experiment-like track I've EVER HEARD.
It drove me insane every time I fuckin heard it, for so many years, and I just love that.
And the magic is still intact ;-)
Thanks Agro, for this masterpiece from outer space !
