Vibrant Fiasco - Lizard Lips

Lizard Lips by Vibrant Fiasco: A Strange Brew of Grit and Glitch Alright, buckle up. If you’re into music that feels like it was made in some neon-lit basement where the 80s were just starting to leak through the cracks, then Lizard Lips is your jam. Released in 1980 under Disturbed Pyramid Records (yes, that’s a real thing), this album slithers between rock, electronic, post-punk, synth-pop, experimental...and probably a few genres we don’t even have names for yet. It's wild. It’s weird. And honestly? It kinda rules. Now let me break it down for ya. Moe Morton—this one-man-band-of-chaos—is all over this record. Like, seriously, dude plays bass, drums, guitar, melodica, tambourine, bongos, handclaps, drum machine—you name it. He’s basically the MacGyver of instruments. Meanwhile, Kilmore Pidgens handles vocals with this eerie deadpan delivery that makes you feel like he’s whispering secrets into your ear from another dimension. Together, they cook up something both minimalistic and chaotic—a vibe I can only describe as “what if Kraftwerk got into a bar fight with Joy Division?” Let’s talk tracks, though, because there are two standouts here that’ll stick to your brain like gum on hot pavement. First up: “Hypersensitive.” This track hits hard right outta the gate with its jittery drum machine beats and icy synths. The melody feels like it’s stumbling around in the dark but somehow knows exactly where it’s going. There’s this moment about halfway through when the guitars kick in with these jagged riffs—it’s not polished or pretty, but man does it hit different. You know those songs that make you wanna pace back and forth while staring at the ceiling? Yeah, this is one of them. Plus, Kilmore’s voice has this detached coolness to it, like he couldn’t care less whether you listen or not. Spoiler alert: You will. Then there’s “Gonna Open Your Head Up,” which sounds exactly as unhinged as the title suggests. Imagine someone took punk rock aggression, threw it in a blender with glitchy electronics, and pressed puree. That opening riff alone—raw, scratchy, almost broken-sounding—is unforgettable. By the time the chorus rolls around, you’re either headbanging or questioning every life decision that led you here. Either way, mission accomplished. Oh, and props to whoever decided to throw random handclaps in there—they shouldn’t work, but somehow they absolutely do. As for the titular track, “Lizard Lips,” well, let’s just say it lives up to its reptilian mystique. Synth lines slither around like snakes in heat, while the percussion keeps things grounded enough to prevent total chaos. Is it catchy? Not really. But does it burrow into your subconscious and refuse to leave? Absolutely. So yeah, Lizard Lips isn’t perfect. Some parts sound like they were recorded on a busted cassette player found in a dumpster behind CBGBs. But maybe that’s the point. Maybe imperfection is what makes this album so damn fascinating. Sure, it’s rough around the edges, but isn’t that what makes art interesting sometimes? Here’s the kicker: After listening to this album, I started wondering if lizards actually do have lips. Like, scientifically speaking. Turns out, nope. They don’t. Mind blown. Go figure.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: The album *Lizard Lips* by Vibrant Fiasco is basically a one-person show. Moe Morton played almost every instrument on the record—bass, drums, guitar, synth, even bongos and handclaps! Kilmore Pidgens added vocals and some percussion, but this 1980 experimental gem was mostly crafted by Morton in the U.S. It’s wild how one person can create such a mix of post-punk, synth-pop, and minimal rock sounds. Tracks like “Hypersensitive” and “Gonna Open Your Head Up” feel like a chaotic yet cohesive musical experiment. Talk about multitasking genius!
